Gift ideas for someone who has everything...

In a few weeks my father-in-law turns 70. I want to get him something special. When he wants something ? he buys it for himself. He is an avid hunter ? so that might be an avenue I could visit. Any unique ideas for the man that had everything??

TIA

Re: Gift ideas for someone who has everything...

  • Honestly, when people get to the point where they have anything they would want, I tend to do either experiential gifts (museum exhibit, a show, etc.) or just take them out to a nice dinner.
  • How about something sappy  - something that is priceless which he wouldn't/couldn't buy for himself?  A video of photos through the years flashing on the screen set to music, a nice photo album, a sentimental note, a professionally framed photo or have a photo turned into a canvas oil painting.
  • I agree with experiential type ideas. My parents don't want more "stuff". For a fella - would he have any interest in taking Race Car driving lessons? Brainerd has a track you can do that. Or what about a year pass to the State Parks?

  • I like the race car idea for DH but I caution you against purchasing that for a 70 year old, unless you want to speed up your inheritance.
  • Does he have videos or pictures from earlier hunts? Groupon has a Photo and Video Digitization Services deal which you might be able to do to save some money and convert them to CDs.

I know my mother wants us to find pictures from her childhood, put them on a CD and make her a photobook.  My dad would like that too...but they are 20 years younger then your FIL so they might be more likly to want a cd with pictures.
