Re: S/O ...Reminisce wedding style

  • I can't remember half these details!

Where did you have your ceremony/reception? The Colony Hotel- Kennebunkport

What were your colors? Blues and Purples I guess- I didn't really have "colors"

What song did you walk down the aisle to? Umm, can't remember... the traditional one... eta- Canon in D

    Recessional song? No recollection!

First dance song? Better Together- Jack Johnson

Wedding party entrance song? I think the band just played

Last dance song? Umm, we didn't specify so I have no idea.

What things did you love about your wedding the most (besides actually getting married of course)? Having all my family together

Did anything go wrong/not as planned? My brother delayed the ceremony because he hadn't thought to iron his shirt-- he lost track of time and was on the putting green. TS Hannah rolled in just as the ceremony ended-- so we had torrential downpours but it held out thru the ceremony and pictures which is all I could ask for.

  • Where did you have your ceremony/reception? Ceremony was at the Samoset Resort and Reception was at Beaver Lodge

What were your colors? Royal blue and Yellow

What are some special touches? Any fun crafts/diy projects? our special "touch" was the candy buffet and it was so much fun :) Oh and my MIL made the groomsman and the photographer a pan of her homemade mac and cheese (a special request from her "boys") so i thought that was really nice :)

Did you go on a honeymoon? Not a full one where? We went to the Balsams for a night

What things did you love about your wedding the most (besides actually getting married of course)? The whole day was amazing, i loved every bit of it.

  •  Love this! :)

Where did you have your ceremony/reception? Oak Grove Chapel(Vassalboro) and the Senator Inn

What were your colors? Black, white, and red

    Dessert? Cake!

What was your table decor? A dozen red roses on each table with black and white damask table runners

What are some special touches? Any fun crafts/diy projects?
Our table numbers were b&w framed pictures of all the dogs we had fostered/dogs available for adoption through our rescue. Our favors where red and white chocolates made by my mom in the shape of dogs and bones and we also made a donation to Star Bright in lieu of additional favors. Our cake topper was a hand made(from Etsy) sculpture of our dog. :) Oh and we did all the flowers ourselves!

Did you go on a honeymoon? where?

My mom's boss owns a beach house in Round Pond and he gave us it for a week for a wedding present. The house is like 30 feet from the coast/beach in it's own secluded spot..it was awesome.

What things did you love about your wedding the most (besides actually getting married of course)?Being surrounded by family and friends. I had a hard time when it was all over, I missed having everyone around.

Did anything go wrong/not as planned? Nothing major. The dj sucked and didn't play any of the songs people requested.

  • Where did you have your ceremony/reception?
We had a small (25ppl) ceremony and dinner in Whitefield, New Hampshire and the next weekend had a big party with all of our friends at Hallowell City Hall.

    What were your colors?
    I didn't have set colors.

What song did you walk down the aisle to?
We had an acoustic guitar playing Canon.

    Recessional song?
I don't know what that is.

    First dance song?
    Pistol by Dustin Kensrue.

    Wedding party entrance song?
    We didn't have one.

    Last dance song?
    We didn't have one.

What are some items from your dinner menu?
I think we had a roast chicken and a stuffed fish...or something like that. Mostly I loved our cocktail hour with smoked salmon and roasted veggies. And wine. Lots of wine.

    Dessert?
Red Velvet cake from Two Fat Cats

    What was your table decor?
I just had old mason jars with dahlias and goards that I grew with little leaves with names on them. At the bash I had mason jars with candy corn and battery operated tealites.

    image

What are some special touches? Any fun crafts/diy projects?
See above. Pretty much everything was DIY including all flowers.

Did you go on a honeymoon? where?
We were supposed to go to Hawaii and then our furnace died. So we went to NYC.

What things did you love about your wedding the most (besides actually getting married of course)?
I loved having a very small wedding with only my family. It was such a special day. And I love our location (Mountain View Grand). The foliage was perfect. Everything was amazing.

Did anything go wrong/not as planned?
If it did...I went with it. Cate was flower girl and would only walk down the "isle" (a garden path) with Seth.

  • Where did you have your ceremony/reception? Linekin Bay Resort in BBH

What were your colors? blue and white

What song did you walk down the aisle to? Winter from the Four Seasons for me, Prince of Denmark march for MH (yes, he wanted his own processional ;-)

Recessional song? Arrival of the Queen of Sheba

First dance song? didn't have one

Wedding party entrance song? didn't have one

Last dance song? didn't have one

What are some items from your dinner menu? Chicken cordon bleu, roast beef with bourdeaux and shallot sauce, an amazing pasta primavera with pesto, antipasti platter, spiced nuts

Dessert? Cake was choclate with rasbperry and white with lemon curd. Best wedding cake EVER, in my opinion.

What was your table decor? white tablecloths with blue and white floral arrangements

What are some special touches? Any fun crafts/diy projects? We did all our seating cards, table numbers, etc. ourselves using photos MH had taken of BBH on a gray day.  This should have been a sign that it would rain two inches on our big day and all our vendors would be late because of the storm!

Did you go on a honeymoon? where? Yes. Montreal and Quebec City.

What things did you love about your wedding the most (besides actually getting married of course)?A random herring boat showed up and docked as close in to the resort as possible.  The manager said he had never seen a fishing boat come so close to the resort's shores.  Loved getting married in front of a crackling fire.  Also loved how great it felt to be married.  :-)

    I love those gourds!!

  • Love this! Not only do I love thinking back on our wedding, I love killing time on Fridays @ work! Wink

Where did you have your ceremony/reception? Ceremony was at Wilson Chapel on Ocean Point in Boothbay, one of my favorite places in the world. Reception was at Linekin Bay Resort a little closer to town- totally rustic and authentically Maine. I'd live there if I could!

What were your colors? We used signal flags in our decor, so a lot of primary colors, but also lot of soft green, blue and yellow- whatever was in season!

What song did you walk down the aisle to? Oooh, good question! All of our ceremony music was done by Ernie Smith a bagpiper from MDI, and I think we used all his original pieces and for the life of me I can't think of the title! I remember it being beautiful though.

Recessional song? This I actually do remember the name of! It was called Acadian Mist, and I loved it.

First dance song? "Brandy" by Looking Glass (as performed by The Dani Tribesmen)- it was the first song we ever danced to at a local bar the first night we "got together" Wink

Wedding party entrance song? We didn't do a formal wedding party entrance.

Last dance song? I think it was "Three Little Birds", but don't hold me to that- it was pretty late @ that point, and we let the reggae band do whatever they wanted to pretty much.

What are some items from your dinner menu? Loved our food! haddock florentine, pork roast w/ demi glace, pasta prima vera, herb roasted local baby potatoes, etc.

Dessert? Wedding cake! I called in a favor from the dessert lady @ the restaurant I worked at and she made a beautiful & simple white lemon cake with whipped frosting and candied lemon peel- soooooo good!

What was your table decor? Very simple-  long tables with white table cloths and white place settings, loose greens laid down the middle with small flowers tucked in randomly and tea lights in low jars. Oh, and champagne on every table!

What are some special touches? Any fun crafts/diy projects? I did our favors and really loved them! We gave out mini Moleskin journals with craft paper covers and a small wax stamp of our monogram on the cover. Each one was tied with a light yellow or blue ribbon, and I tucked a little green card in each with a little history about the Moleskin journal, and how we loved to record our adventures and hoped our guests would too. The rest of the summer our gang of friends had and ongoing joke about them, and they would be randomly whipped out @ parties or the bar, and notes would be taken, very funny!

Did you go on a honeymoon? where? We were given a two day stay out on Monhegan Island following the wedding by some close family friends, and had the best time ever! We didn't have the $$$ for a big trip, so this was perfect. I think we slept the whole first day we got out there. We're hoping to get back out sometime soon!

What things did you love about your wedding the most (besides actually getting married of course)? Sharing the day with everyone we love! There was so much joy on the day- perfect weather, great music and food, you name it.

Did anything go wrong/not as planned? Uhm, my MIL flashing everyone her cash and prizes out on the dance floor and not giving a damn about it? What is it with her and her hatred of underpants?!

  • Where did you have your ceremony/reception? McKernan Hospitality Center on the SMCC campus, right on the ocean.

What were your colors? Light yellow w/ some grass green

What song did you walk down the aisle to? Don't remember. We had a violinist play some contemporary things

    Recessional song? See above

First dance song? How Sweet It is (to be Loved By You). We had a 5 piece jazz band, but they learned and played the songs we wanted.

Wedding party entrance song? Happy Together

(Cut our cake to "Ice Cream" by Sarah McLachlan and danced to "My Girl" with my dad)

Last dance song? Save the Last Dance (for me). This was my most memorable moment because everyone was dancing and having a great time so the band kept looping back and played the song for basically 10 minutes.

What are some items from your dinner menu? Don't really remember. I didn't really eat! Passed appetizers, buffet meal.

Dessert? White cake with vanilla buttercream and fresh strawberries inside with chocolate buttercream and sugar daisies outside

What was your table decor? Potted plans that DH's mother grew at their greenhouse. She also did a ton of planters for the ceremony areas.

What are some special touches? Any fun crafts/diy projects? We gave guests blank cds in postage paid envelopes to download and send us the pictures they took. It was SO fun to receive them. Also made labels for little water bottles.

Did you go on a honeymoon? where? Ft. Lauderdale and a Western Carribean Cruise

What things did you love about your wedding the most (besides actually getting married of course)? Last dance moment mentioned above, looking down out the window from the second floor room where I got ready and could see everyone arriving, the laid back feel of the whole day.

Did anything go wrong/not as planned? The green ribbon they put around the cake was really sheer and looked yucky after it got damp from the buttercream, so that didn't look like I planned. A piece of my hair got stuck on my dads glasses when he hugged me after walking down the aisle, but that was more on the funny side.

  • Because I like talking about my wedding, as I'm sure most of you do...

Where did you have your ceremony/reception?: Reception was at Library Hall on Bailey Island. Loved it there. Right on the ocean.  we had the ceremony at the non-denominational church next door, since the only other spot for reception was ouside on the beach and planning the outside ceremony was making me stressed!

What were your colors? Dandelion yellow and grass green with a few touches of orange.

What song did you walk down the aisle to? Somewhere Over the Rainbow (the newer Hawaiian version)

Recessional song? All I Want Is You- Barry Louis Polisar (Juno soundtrack)

First dance song? Sea of Love- Cat Power (Juno soundtrack)

Wedding party entrance song? Price is Right theme song

Last dance song? They Love Each Other- Grateful Dead

What are some items from your dinner menu? Salmon, blueberry cream cheese puff pastry things, spinach salad with strawberries, lots of other yummy stuff. Loved our caterer!!

Dessert? Cupcake tower and a dessert buffet of mini desserts such as peanut butter cups, canolis, cream puffs, rum balls, etc soooo yummy

What was your table decor? long family style tables with yellow gingham runners, wild flowers (mostly Dahlias, black eyed susans, etc since it was Sept) from a local wild flower farm in rectangular vases, square votives, place card holders that were handmade from Etsy and held a single wild flower in each one. favors were chocoloate lobster, or moose. Table numbers on each table as well.

What are some special touches? Any fun crafts/diy projects? DH and I made our own invitations, programs, and save the date cards (he's a graphic designer so that helped!), We also made our table numbers from old postcard from the Catskill Mountains in NY (where I'm from), VT (where he's from and we both met) and Maine. Very cool! We also made the cupcake tower. Our guest book was a photo journal type thing with pics of us as kids. I also made my own jewerly. :)

Did you go on a honeymoon? where? In laws surprised me (DH already knew) with a honeymoon in Bar Harbor! 5-star hotel and they paid for dinner for two nights. It was awesome!

What things did you love about your wedding the most (besides actually getting married of course)? Having all my close friends and family in one place. DH and I spent a big portion of our budget on renting a house for our wedding party and a few friends. It was awesome to hang out with them all weekend. Everyone is scattered, so not sure when we'll get to do somethign like that again.  Our wedding was small (only 60 people) so it was also really nice to spend time with our guests individually...especially since a lot drove all the way from NY to see us. Also I love Bailey Island and am so happy we could get married there!!

Did anything go wrong/not as planned? I really wished I had hired a better photographer. We had a friend who is a good photographer, but he had never done a wedding before. The photos are good, but not as great as other's I've seen. Also the DJ neglected to announce that people sign the guest book, so a lot of people didn't even know it was there.  had a few people sign it after the wedding the next time I Saw them. LOL  Also the caterers opened the wrong door to let people in so most didn't see their place cards, which I worked really hard on and I guess people were wandering around trying to find their tables. I

  • Where did you have your ceremony/reception? My hometown church in Chelmsford & Gibbet Hill, Groton, MA

What were your colors? Browns, Golds, Coppers- My BMs chose to wear a burnt orange color. I told them they could choose any autumn color except red. (Tan, brown, gold, yellow, orange, burgundy, eggplant.)

What song did you walk down the aisle to? Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, Bach

    Recessional song? Beautiful Day, U2

First dance song? All I Want is You, U2

Wedding party entrance song? Who Do You Love, George Thoroughgood and the Destroyers

Last dance song? Everlasting Love, U2 (Do you see a theme here?)

What are some items from your dinner menu? Man, it was so good! Butternut squash raviolis, some sort of delicious salad, Chicken Picatta with baked stuffed shrimp, whipped garlic potatoes, and green beans (I think?)

Dessert? Chocolate wedding cake with raspberry filling and vanilla buttercream

What was your table decor? I came up with the idea to do tealights in small terracotta pots and then my florist took that and created lovely bouquets that he placed in square vases filled with smashed terracotta pot pieces in the bottom.  It was so cool.

What are some special touches? Any fun crafts/diy projects? I made our invitations, table numbers/ menus, and all paper goods like that, as well as the ribbon/ fake flower wreaths in the church.  I put the placecards in an accordian of paper with acorns scattered for decoration. I had wedding pictures of parents and grandparents out, as well as pictures of DH and I going back to high school.

Oh, and my dad and I danced to ABBA's Dancing Queen as our Father/ Daughter dance.

Did you go on a honeymoon? where? Couple of days in Boston (where we saw the U2 Vertigo tour show!) and then a week in Jackson Hole, Wyoming/ Yellowstone- SO awesome, and SO us.

What things did you love about your wedding the most (besides actually getting married of course)? Because we were the first clients to book our reception location (which we did after only seeing it in the dead of winter with a backhoe inside the reception barn while the guys were blowing insulation into the ceiling) they treated us very nicely. And one of the perks was the millionaire owner drove us up to the top of the hill where there are ruins and amazing views so that we could do pictures.  Normally folks had to hoof it or pay crazy amounts to have the privilege of being up there.

Also, my uncle drove us to the reception in his '69 baby blue Cadillac. It made no sense to hire a limo since we were close to both our houses and the reception location, and we wanted to include him AND knock out our something blue. They went all out for us- he made a mix tape to play, they scattered rose petals, attached cans to the back, and had champagne for us. We drove with the windows down, laughing with my uncle, and just really enjoying those first few minutes of being married in a relaxed way.  It was one of the best memories.

Overall, the whole day was really mellow- just like we wanted.  We were pretty easy going, had fantastic easy-going vendors, and everything was perfect.

Did anything go wrong/not as planned? We arrived a good 30 minutes early to the reception location. Which meant we ended up looping the cocktail hour music a little- oops! And even though it was Oct 1, the trees did not want to start changing that year, so everything was green.  (Though when the sunset, it made everything take on a golden glow, so even that turned out great.)  We lucked out in getting the ONLY decent weekend the entire month.

It's hard to believe this was over 5 years ago! We were just looking through our wedding album last weekend- which is how I remember some of these things!

  • Where did you have your ceremony/reception?  We had our ceremony in the same (Congregational, to the horror of some of my Catholic extended family members) church that MIL/FIL and BIL/SIL got married in, and our reception was in a big hall, both in our town.

What were your colors?  Light blue and orange.

What song did you walk down the aisle to?  Cannon in D

Recessional song?  Wedding March.  We were pretty traditional/boring with the church music but I love the sound of the piano in the church (reminds me of when my mom used to play when I was little) so we went with it.

First dance song?  Peter Gabriel's version of The Book of Love.

Wedding party entrance song?  No clue, not even sure we had one?

Last dance song?  We knew the caterers and DJ well and they agreed to keep going until the party died down... so the last song was a karaoke version of something sung to us by a family member as we were packing up the car.

What are some items from your dinner menu?  I remember putting time into deciding on this and I ate a little bit of whatever they brought to me, but now I can't remember anything that we ate.

Dessert?  Our cake, I think we settled on 3 flavors for different layers, but I didn't get any at the wedding.  We had the top made w/ our fav. of champagne cake with raspberry filling and it was awesome at our 1 yr. ann.

What was your table decor?  Tea lights and vases with big bright orange gerbera daisies.

What are some special touches? Any fun crafts/diy projects? Part of my gift to DH was a picture of his late father etched onto a small charm.  He pinned it into his coat so it gave him a private way to have his dad with him but not have to tell our 200 guests.  We also had a photo booth, which got us the best pictures of the day, by far.   After the 1st dances I changed from my 4" heels into my chucks and was able to dance all night w/out worrying about my feet hurting, also a good choice.

Did you go on a honeymoon? where?  We went to Hawaii and Vegas.  It will be hard for us to top that vacation.

What things did you love about your wedding the most (besides actually getting married of course)?  I loved that all of the people we care about were able to make it, and it was just one big party.  We're both the youngest by a lot so it was the 1st time our families had gotten together for a positive occasion in a while.

Did anything go wrong/not as planned? Anything and everything with the tux order.  Some were different/not the ones we ordered and one groomsman got pants that were a good 8" too short- made for one of my favorite pictures though!  Also, I wasn't impressed with our pictures from the photographer.  Nothing that ruined the day though.  I'd have a wedding every year if it was financially possible.

Where did you have your ceremony/reception? Echo Hill in St. George, Maine.  It's an old, rustic dance hall in the midcoast.

What were your colors? No really set colors, we had ivory and lavender roses, bridesmaid dresses were a wine/raspberry color.

What song did you walk down the aisle to? whatever the normal "here comes the bride' ditty is.  We had a jazz duet, guitar and bass for the ceremony and a cocktail hour.

    Recessional song?  can't remember!

First dance song? In My Life by the Beatles.  I had always wanted this song as a kid for 'our song' and found out later it was actually my parent's song too, so we went with it and kept it a surprise.

Wedding party entrance song? didn't do this nor did we do father/daughter, mother/son dances.

Last dance song? At last by Etta James

What are some items from your dinner menu? We DIY'ed our food and did heavy hors d'ouevres.  Our ceremony was at 7pm, so it was an after-dinner wedding.  I made some Greek food, dolmades and spanikopita, crab stuffed mushrooms, an antipasto platter.

Dessert? Yellow cake with fresh strawberries and custard with buttercream.  Yum!!

What was your table decor? floating tea lights and roses, petals on the table.

What are some special touches? Any fun crafts/diy projects?  Our wedding was 90% DIY - flowers, food, music etc.  I didn't go too crazy with the little details because it's just not my personality and there was a lot to do, but everything came out well and it was a fun night.

Did you go on a honeymoon? where?  We went to Rome, Italy for a week.  We went budget, budget, budget on the wedding so we could do something we really wanted to do for the honeymoon.  I studied abroad in Rome in college and wanted to go back, and Chris had never been abroad.  It was a really great trip!

What things did you love about your wedding the most (besides actually getting married of course)?  We got engaged and had a short engagement because I thought my dad was going to die pretty soon.  We knew we would get married eventually, and I really wanted him at my wedding.  I loved that my dad was there, and I also loved that we kind of shared our wedding with him and all of his close friends and family.   It wasn't just about us, it was a chance for him to see people he hadn't seen in a long time and might not see again.  The best part was that he realized at the wedding he wasn't ready to go yet, he wanted more time, and he opted to have a surgery that allowed him 2 more years of life.

Did anything go wrong/not as planned?  My photographer was crappy, wish I had spent more time and money on that one.

  • Where did you have your ceremony/reception?  Ceremony was at Hammond St Congregational Church, Bangor; Reception at Jeff's Catering in Brewer

What were your colors?  chris wanted burgandy so we did that...but my dress had that wine/burgandy color in it...then we had some greens and browns thrown in (like, our favors were saplings)

What song did you walk down the aisle to? traditional one

    Recessional song? traditional one

First dance song? here by me, 3doors down

Wedding party entrance song?  there were a few of them I think but we walked into queen of my double wide trailer.  It was fun that's for sure.

Last dance song?  I'm pretty sure it was our first dance song.  I was pretty drunk so I'm not sure I remember correctly

What are some items from your dinner menu?  We  had this amazing chicken dish, potatoes, alfredo pasta, salad..normal buffet stuff

    Dessert? cake of course

What was your table decor?  white linens with burgandy overlays (which were actually napkins because the overlays were actually too big).  votive lamps from yankee candle as centerpieces

What are some special touches? Any fun crafts/diy projects?  I made my programs and I think I intended on making much more but I just had more fun spending money :)

Did you go on a honeymoon? where?  we went camping in rangeley for 4 days...it was very nice

What things did you love about your wedding the most (besides actually getting married of course)? we had a pretty rockin party!  I got to see lots of people I don't normally see.  We also went to Barnaby's (at the Ramada Inn, Bangor) after we got back to the hotel.  His parents, parents' friends and some of our bridal party joined us.  Then we all walked down to the ground round for more food and drinks....tried to buy booze at the gas station but it was past 1am.

Did anything go wrong/not as planned?  it rained during our ceremony so I did not get any outdoor pictures. We lost power for a few minutes during pictures. I wanted to have the pictures done before the ceremony but my photographer convinced me otherwise.  I would pick another photographer if I had to do it again.  We had to walk out to the limo in downpours...only for it to stop raining and be sunny as we were getting to the reception.  The total time for travel was 5 minutes.  blech

My aunt did our wedding food and it was incredible! We had sliced roast beef, apple walnut stuffed chicken breasts (possibly the best thing I've ever eaten) or grilled portabello mushrooms. I think there were green beans and mashed potatoes and possibly carrots as well... another aunt made this insanely delicious olive tapanade as an appetizer that was passed around during the cocktail hour. It was all fabulous.

    Dessert?
Our incredible wedding cake... one layer of vanilla cake with blueberry buttercream filling, a layer of carrot cake with cream cheese filling, a layer of chocolate cake with mocha buttercream filling, and a layer of chocolate cake filled with the most delicious rich chocolate ganache I've ever tasted. Best cake I've ever had in my life.

    What was your table decor?
A tall vase with orange gerbera daisies wrapped with light blue tulle, then two smaller vases with pinecones and tea lights

What are some special touches? Any fun crafts/diy projects?
We wrote our own vows and they were so special, my aunts helped me with the centerpieces and did all the food, my brother (who has an incredible voice) sang several times throughout the evening with one of his friends accompanying him on guitar, my mom and aunt put together an incredibly sweet video montage of pictures of DH and I through the years that was played midway through the reception, DH's aunt (who passed away 10 months later after a long battle with breast cancer) wrote us an amazingly beautiful poem which she read during the reception... I'm sure there's more, but those were some highlights.

Did you go on a honeymoon? where?
Akumal, Mexico. An amazing AI resort. Such a great trip. I can't wait to go back.

What things did you love about your wedding the most (besides actually getting married of course)?
The response we got to our vows, seeing all the emotions our photographer captured on our faces during the ceremony, going for a quick canoe ride after the ceremony for picture taking purposes, having a packed dance floor all night and seeing people who had never met before (my FIL and aunt, my cousin and one of Sean's uncles, etc.) dancing with each other and clearly having a blast... and a lot of the "special touches" I mentioned above.

Did anything go wrong/not as planned?
Oh my gosh, where to start... my mom was supposed to pick up all the bouquets the morning of the wedding and she forgot so she went running off to get them 45 minutes before the ceremony was supposed to start, and this last minute mad dash meant that she never got to do her hair or makeup before the wedding started, I forgot to pick up my dress the night before and had to run out and get it that morning, my cousin who lived next door to our wedding cake designer volunteered to transport my wedding cake since the baker had another wedding the same day and couldn't transport it himself, but she got a nasty stomach flu the morning of the wedding and couldn't make it, so I had to find someone else to pick it up on their way at the very last minute, my hairdresser really didn't do a great job on my bridesmaids' hair, I ended up not really liking how all the bridesmaid dresses looked together (I just asked them all to wear a chocolate brown dress... definitely should have been more specific), my bridesmaids asked to see the photobook of boudoir photos I gave my hubby as a wedding gift and it got left out on a table in an upstairs hallway of the lodge... to this day I still have no idea how many of my friends, family members, and/or in-laws have seen those shots....I got in a minor disagreement with my mother in law about where the ceremony should take place, one of my uncles decided he didn't want to wait in line for the bathroom and went to relieve himself around the back of the building and my photographer, looking for a picturesque place to photograph our rings walked around the corner and got an eyeful, I fell on my butt trying to do the electric slide... I guess that covers the most major ones. Looking back on it now, all those mishaps are really what made the whole day so special.

  • Because I like talking about my wedding, as I'm sure most of you do...

Where did you have your ceremony/reception? Ceremony was in Antigua, with just us.  We eloped.

What were your colors?  White. And DH had a blue shirt.  So I guess white and blue.  And we both wore flip flops.

What song did you walk down the aisle to?  DH requested God Bless the Broken Road.

Recessional song?  Don't think I had one.

First dance song?  When You Say Nothing at All

Wedding party entrance song?  Well, the resort had a band that night and they announced us.  Not sure if there was music.  We got married mid day and then went swimming after.  I made DH get dressed back up again.  He was annoyed, but I insisted I wore my dress to dinner.  They had a candle lit dinner on the beach for two for us.  So, yes..he needed to wear his tie again.

    Last dance song?  ???

What are some items from your dinner menu?  I don't remember.  I remember it was yummy though.  But I do remember the cake.  Mmm.

Dessert?  White cake, white frosting.  I got what I requested!

What was your table decor?  Flower petals and candles overlooking the beach.

What are some special touches? Any fun crafts/diy projects?  Well, we did come back and have a huge BBQ on the water at the summer campground I used to go to.  I made our own invitations, we did most of the food ourselves.  I had lilacs in a mason jar in the post and beam mess hall.    We had volleyball tourneys and a fire.  Spectacular.

Did you go on a honeymoon? where?  Well, we only got a weddingmoon.  No honeymoon.  I think we need one.

What things did you love about your wedding the most (besides actually getting married of course)? That it was just us.  For me, eloping was the best decision I ever made.  It was so special, relaxing and perfect.  It didn't fly by at all, we were able to savor every second. I feel more in love with him.

And it was easy.  We arrived and it said "Welcome the future mr and mrs. l.  please meet us at 9am to go over the details of your special day".   I love all the things the resort did to make it special- we got to pick where we got married, they decorated it with flowers, we chose our cake, flowers, music by checklist.  They had a photographer for us (who was great!).  They drove us on a special trip to get our marriage license.  Right after we married, they had a special appetizer course for us wtih champagne, then they had the special dinner on teh beach for us, and a band to celebrate.  When we came back to our room to find rose petals all over the room, "I love you" written on the bed in flowers, candles and champagne.  And then we had breakfast in bed delivered to us the next morning, along with 2 matching shirts that said "just married".  It was sooo special.

Did anything go wrong/not as planned? Well, this was to be expected, but many were very mad at us. We paid for it ourselves and did what we wanted.  I'm sure if my mom was alive, I'd do something different. But I just couldn't imagine having a big wedding without my mom.

What are some special touches? Any fun crafts/diy projects? DH made our card box and cake stand.  We made our own table numbers and had a candy buffet.  We gave each guest a cd of our favorite songs because we both love music and concerts.

What things did you love about your wedding the most (besides actually getting married of course)? Being with friends and family and enjoying the fact that all my planning was successful.

Did anything go wrong/not as planned?  typical family drama.  DH's grandmother didn't show up- she was "sick".  My mother and aunt got into a huge fight- and are still not talking three years later.  Other than that all good!

  •  Awwww, weddings!  I loved reading about these, even the ones I already knew all the details of thanks to our knot days. :)  Where did you have your ceremony/reception? Migis Lodge on Sebago LakeWhat were your colors? Sort of green/brown/pink, but SIL wore an orange dress, my mom wore blue, and my older sister wore a beige-y/champagne-y color, so nothing too formal about the color scheme.
What song did you walk down the aisle to? "Bryter Later" by Nick Drake
Recessional song? "Serpentine Fire" by Earth, Wind, and FireFirst dance song? We didn't do any formal spotlight dances
Wedding party entrance song? We didn't do a formal entranceLast dance song? "Everlasting Love" by ??  I think it was kclouts who gave me this idea, but I'm not sure.
What are some items from your dinner menu? Since we took over the property for the weekend, we had three dinners: a lobster bake Friday night, a sit-down dinner on Saturday night, and a buffet on Sunday.  All of the food was AH-MAZING, but hands down the buffet wins...although I hear that our cocktail hour was really good.  I screwed up and forgot to eat most of it.Dessert? I think we only had cake on the wedding night.  I'm not sure.  We had a chocolate cake with raspberry filling and chocolate ganache. What was your table decor? .DIY green runners, small votives, and lanterns I made with b/w pictures of MH & I printed on vellum.  Hard to explain, but this was the inspiration: http://www.marthastewart.com/article/photo-centerpiece  Each table was named after a place that MH & I had just visited on our 5-week cross-country drive from SF to Boston, and the photos corresponded with the table name.  I also wrote up a brief explanation of the table name and had that out on the table (I can't remember how -- maybe framed?  maybe as a tent card?)  What are some special touches? Any fun crafts/diy projects? Everything was DIY, and I had a great time doing it.  I loved our invites.  Also, during the ceremony, at the part where people are usually supposed to "Speak Now" if there shouldn't be a marriage, we instead assigned various family/friends to stand up and say why we SHOULD be married.  We had no idea what any of them were going to say, and it was awesome and sometimes funny and really touching.  Did you go on a honeymoon? where? We spent three days home sick, then headed up to Lake Winnepesauke for a couple of days, then tooled around the White Mountains for a few days, hopping from place to place as the whim caught us.  We ate fried clams every day.  What things did you love about your wedding the most (besides actually getting married of course)? Everything.  Really.  I love that it lasted several days, and that everyone stayed for several days, and that we were all there together...everyone staying on the property was someone we loved, and they were all there for us, and they were all there to relax and have a good time.  Fantastic.Did anything go wrong/not as planned? The mosquitos and the threatened rain kept us from having the lobster bake outdoors the night before the wedding, but that wasn't such a big deal.  Oh, and I forgot to make the boutonnieres for MH and our dads, which was going to be my one nod to any ethnic heritage.  (Rosemary pins are traditional at Croatian weddings.  Usually they're given to all guests, but I was just going to do them as bouts, again ala Martha: http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb175/akbuilt/Love Honor and Cherish/022809d.jpg

  • What a great thread! I love reading these.

Where did you have your ceremony/reception? In MH's grandpa's mansion (on a lake) in Dedham. Ceremony outside, reception inside.

What were your colors? black and white

What song did you walk down the aisle to? Radio Ballet by Eluvium

    Recessional song? No idea.

    First dance song? N/A

    Wedding party entrance song? N/A

    Last dance song? N/A

What are some items from your dinner menu? Lasagna, chicken, mashed potatoes...

    Dessert? Spice cake

What was your table decor? A simple black square vase with white spider mums and assorted white/green flowers. Plus mini pumpkins as favors.

What are some special touches? Any fun crafts/diy projects? I bought a bunch of the mini pumpkins at a farm in Corinth. My friend made the favor tags from them since she is good with penmanship. But that's it.

Did you go on a honeymoon? where? Yes, Disney World. It was great.

What things did you love about your wedding the most (besides actually getting married of course)? Seeing all the people I never get to.

Did anything go wrong/not as planned? The tables/chairs were not at all how I thought or wanted but that's how it goes when you have your reception at a relative's house. In the end it didn't matter much but it still pissed me off.
