This story is horrible beyond words. On Sunday night, Ohio resident Brent Whitehouse's barn was burned down, killing the eight horses inside, one of which was a baby colt. Authorities believe it was a hate crime, based on the homophobic slurs spray-painted on the side of the barn, and the fact that the owner is gay.Murdering eight animals because their owner is gay is monstrous.I'm devastated and I'm angry. My heart goes out to Brent and his family and to anyone who lives in fear of being persecuted for who they are. Please know that wherever you are, I'm standing with you.

I growl (insert more insulting words) at hate crimes. It hits close to home since my brother is gay and so are a lot of my friends. I just can't understand why people just can't let people be.

My mom is gay and it hits really close to home for me too.

My younger sisters are bullied daily because of it.

This is such bullshitt. My mom is gay as well and it breaks my heart to think of someone hurting her just because she is gay. I hope these people rot in jail.

Last week, while working on a script with some grade 9 students, one of them asked me why people hated/were afraid of gays. I didn't really have an answer. It's so stupid.
