So I'm fine but I spent yesterday afternoon in the ER

Fun!  I'm told it's like a rite of passage for moms to be.  At my doctor's appointment last week, my BP was crazazy high, like 160/? high.  My doc was kind of a doucher and just said "oh we're going to test your blood and urine.  See ya!" and walked out of the room.  Awesome!

So fast forward to Wednesday night.  I lay down to go to bed and my heart is racing.  Eventually, I just fell asleep and it was fine.  Yesterday when I woke up, I hopped in the shower and was getting ready for work when it started again.  I got nervous enough to wake up DH.   We both agreed that since it stopped last night I would just go to work and see how I felt.  By lunch time, it was happening again.  I called my doc and they said to go to the ER.  So off I went.

I had an EKG and blood drawn.  When I got to triage, my bp was 147/87, which is high, but not scary like it was at the doc's the week before.  After lots of waiting around, they put me in a "room" in the ER, gave me an EKG and took some blood.  After even more waiting around, the NP came back in and told me that I was absolutely fine.  This was apparently very common in pregnant women, especially first time pregnant women.  I need to lay off the sodium and up the water intake.   So that was my Thursday afternoon adventure.

  • My vote is that you are having a girl. She's causing lots of dramarama already. :)

Seriously though, I'm glad you both are OK.

  • Oh that sucks.  I got HBP when I was pregnant and it has never gone away :(  Make sure they keep an eye on it but I hope it goes away for you!

Totally agree, only girls can be that biitchy! Sorry to hear about that, glad everything turned out ok.

  • You should change the title of this post to "I'm fine but...I spent the day in the ER" because I almost had a heart attack clicking on this. I was afraid it was going to be some horrible news. However, obviously I'm very happy it's not!

Glad you're better and hopefully your bp stays down!

  • I am glad you are okay! Honestly though this is not a rite of passage I find common at all and think you should look into finding another doctor. Hbp is vet serious during pregancy and my midwives would have never just sent me home.
  • Oh Jesus I didn't even think of that.  I'm just as dramatic as this kid is!

  • Glad your ok Jess!
  • Glad to hear everything is ok.

I'm thinking that the rite of passage thing was something my mom was telling me to calm me.  And trust me, I am never seeing that doc again.  There are 4 docs in my practice and I have seen him twice now and that was plenty for me.  He was seriously a GIANT dbag.  I've been going to their office for 11 years and always see one lady doc who I will now specifically schedule my appointments with once I've seen all the doctors.

Just curious where you go? Because something tells me we go to the same place and I know who you're talking about. I'm interested to see if I'm right.

  • Eek! Glad you're doing okay, scary stuff.
  • Kernal I sent you a private message thingy.  Just don't want to put my bidnazz on blast.
  • glad you're ok.  i agree with pp- not sure that this is a rite of passage. hope it doesn't happen again for you.

i understand you can schedule your appts to avoid this dr.  but what if he's the one on duty when you go into labor.  are you ok with him delivering you?

I have to agree with this.  I had a dbag doctor in an office of several doctors and I thought what is the chance of getting him.  I also thought the doctor didn't matter much, that they're only really there for the delivery so who cares what doctor I get.  Well, I got the dbag.  After my experience, I will say it makes a HUGE difference what doctor you get.  If you're at all uncomfortable with him you might want to look into switching.

  • Honestly, I'd be ok if he delivered.  I was alone at that appointment and DH has a much clearer head in those types of situations.  I honestly think that had he been there, things wouldn't have been so rushed.  I was alone and scared so I was more in a stunned silence.

And thanks for all of the well wishes!

  • So glad everything is okay!  But it's definitely something to keep an eye on.  I had pre-eclampsia.  Not fun and serious stuff.
  • Glad things are okay! I get like that once and a while when I take hot showers, I just sit down put my feet up and have an ice cold HUGE glass of water. I drink a crap ton of water now because if I don't, I get really shaky/dizzy and my heart starts to race.. so I'm sure you will be much better once the water intake gets upped. ER visits are always super fun...
  • Glad you're okay.
