So.....Kate's Dress (possible spoilers)

Thoughts?  I caught a glimpse on tv while I was getting coffee this morning.

Re: So.....Kate's Dress (possible spoilers)

  • I thought it was gorgeous. I loved that it was timeless and simple. And the lace! gah - loved it. It was perfect for their wedding.
  • I have to admit, I was a little disappointed, but not surprised by her choice.  She is very conservative and simple in how she dresses.  I think she looked lovely, but the dress wasn't really my style at all.  I think if she just would have done short sleeves it would have looked a touch more modern.

  • Loved it!  I thought it was gorgeous and classic, very befitting the future Queen of England.  I actually really liked the lace sleeves.

Pippa looked amazing as well.  Loved her dress.

Was anyone watching when William and Kate's carriage arrived at Buckingham Palace?  She had previously had Pippa following her around and helping with her train, but when they arrived at the palace Pippa wasn't there to help.  She kind of looked at the footman (is that his title?) for a little help, and he tried, but he obviously had no clue what to do with it.

Exactly this.  I was like...."Really?!  That's it?"  I thought it was really boring for all the hype.  I was not impressed at all.  She still looked beautiful, but it wasn't at all what I was expecting.

  • I thought it was really pretty.

I also think the Westminster Abbey has a rule that wedding dresses need to have long sleeves?  Maybe?

I wish I would have worn lace.  Love it.

    Me too!

  • I kept hearing on the radio that it was understand and people were underwhelmed. I haven't seen a good picture yet of it, but from the picture of them saying her vows, I loved it. I think that her pictures in 30 years and you can say wow she looked elegant and not "what was she thinking?"

I heard something about her having two dresses...maybe she will have a more fun modern dress for tonights dinner/dance.

  • I loved it! I thought it was gorgeous, and so classic. I just thought it was very fitting.

I also loved Pippa's - she looked amazing!

PS.  Grace Kelly's dress was stunning.  Wow.

They both seem to embody the role of princess here.  Love the style.

Ah, here's a picture of the footman with her train.  He kind of just bunched it up and then dropped it.  It looked like an awkward moment.

Also, how adorable does Prince William look with his bride in one hand and her bouquet in the other?  Smile

  • Those are gorgeous dresses.

I am wondering if they have to wear long sleeves becaues of how religious the ceremony/church was?

  • I tried on a dress with lace sleeves and omg I broke out real bad.

  • Yes, long sleeves are preferred for the Abby, however it's not the sleeves that I didn't like necessarily, I just didn't think the dress in general was anything that great.  I guess it's just NMS (and I have very simple taste when it comes to wedding gowns).

I loved everything about this scene.

So, who all set their alarms and got up early to watch it all live? We did...and it was worth it.

Did you also drink some beer this morning?  :)

I was awake, but I didn't watch it.  I was mostly laying in bed miserable.  No energy to force myself out of bed and walk all the way to the basement.   :)

  • No...no beer. Apparently that is for tonight. We had tea this morning and XN almost burned the house down.

And with that teaser, I have an event to go to! Wink

  • I set my alarm for 5:30, although I was up at 5:00 (thanks to a pesky cat).  And I drank tea, too.  It seemed fitting.

I was originally planning to record it and watch it tonight, but a few days ago I decided I'd rather watch it live.  I'm really glad that I did.  It was totally worth it.

Yeah... that deserves an explanation.  How does one nearly burn the house down making tea?!

How does one nearly burn the house down making tea?!

    A story, by Chymes.

This morning, at 5:15 a.m., we shuffled downstairs to watch the royal wedding, bleary-eyed from five hours of sleep. "We should make tea," I mumbled. "Sounds good," XN mumbled back. He went into the kitchen and filled up the teapot.

20 minutes later, as Charles and Camilla were about to arrive at Westminster Abbey, I realized that we still did not have our tea. "Ummm...did you turn the burner on?" Nope, he hadn't. He yawned and shuffled back into the kitchen to turn on the (gas flame) burner...then ambled back into the living room and sat back down on the couch.

Two minutes later, we heard a strange crackling sound. A terrible smell followed within seconds. And then there were flames shooting up from the stove.

It seems XN, in his early-morning stupor, had turned on the wrong burner. The burner he DID turn on was occupied by a glass Pyrex container with a plastic lid. The lid was on fire. Significantly.

After some frantic moments of throwing water all over the kitchen and flinging open doors and windows to the 5:45 a.m. air to dissipate the smoke, the fire was out.

    Then *I* made us tea.

At least we were wide awake for the wedding ceremony.

    The End.

That is a fabulous story!  Big Smile  I'm glad your house didn't burn down though.

And it illustrates why I don't like gas ranges.

I made my tea in the microwave.

  • The dress was positively stunning and as mentioned above, totally inspired by Grace Kelly.  It fit her perfectly.  I couldn't find a flaw in it!  I personally hope this starts a new trend in wedding dresses :-)
