Re: hope church in wdsm
We are Hope members and really like it. It is very large, but we love the natural energy it has. I think it is so big b/c people just love it and bring their friends. The pastors are all great (Pastor Mike is "the" guy, very charasmatic, but also totally down to earth). It is amazing what a church that size is able to do in the community and around the world, it is wonderful to watch a be a part of something that can really make a difference in thousands of peoples' lives. It is a mega church, but doesnt' have that creepy feel at all that some big churchs can get (I am really good at sniffing out suspicious stuff). Most importantly, the people and the mission are so geniune - they manage to really care about people w/o being judgy, if you know what I mean.
We have done alpha in the past, which is a great way to get involved. that led into a small group which we did up until G was born. Since then it has been hard to commit to evening activities. G and I used to do a mommy and me music class and a new mom class. Now we basically just go to church every week and G goes to jubilation, which is a pre-sunday school just for kids ages 2 1/2 - 3. She loves it and it has been so good for her. That is one of the big advantages of a large church - specialization that you can find something that fits your needs exactly. Not many churches are big enough to have classes targeted specifically for kids w/in 6 months of eachothers' ages. Their kids programs are fantastic, and they hire top-notch educators. If hope's sunday school program was a public school, it would be the largest in the state, so they are very well trained to teach and lead groups of kids.
Hope isn't going to be for everyone, but we love it there, and i guess so do lots and lots of other people.
