Please...

...keep your fingers crossed.  I had an endoscopy 2 weeks ago and it found gastritis.  This is more of a symptom than a cause.  The nurse called last week to schedule a colonoscopy.  I asked if the doctor could call me. I went through test after test blindly last time around and I built up tons of medical bills.  I didn't want to do that this time around.

When my doctor called, I told him all this and if the plan was to do more tests or if the colonoscopy was the last.  He told me that he has an idea of what is going on, but wanted to do the endoscopy and colonoscopy to make sure it wasn't a few things.  He said honestly, he is 99% sure that the colonoscopy would come back normal, so we decided to hold off on that.

He said that even if my 1st test, the small bowel follow through, was normal it did show something.  The test didn't show any blockages or anything like that.  However, he said that even if there is no right or wrong amount of time it takes food to go through the small intestines, the average is 2-3 hours.  Mine was completely through in 40 minutes.

He thinks that I am digesting things way to quickly, and inturn not digesting correctly.  He thinks this is what is causing my symptoms.  One thing that causes this is bacterial overgrowth.  So on Saturday, I started a 10 day antibiotic and take applepectin after everymeal (slows down digestions.)

I haven't bloated since Monday or had any bad pains(knock on wood).  I have had heartburn and burning stomach aches, but I figured, even once the bacteria is gone(if that is what is going on), It will take a bit for the gastritis to go away and my stomach lining gets back to normal.  So please, please, please keep your fingers crossed that they finally figured this out and I can go back to normal.  I am so tired of being sick and feeling so defeated.  Thanks!

It sounds like they're on the right track, anyway. I hope you get to feeling better soon. Way to go avoiding the colonoscopy -- I would think it would be normal in your case too. ((hugs))

  • i hope that they have figured it out Kelly! in the future, did your doctor say if there was a certain diet or foods to avoid to hopefully keep this from flaring up again?

  • You must be so relieved to finally have an answer, and one that hopefully is easily rectified. Fingers crossed that you kick this bacteria to the curb and can get on with your life!
