bin Laden is dead
I'm sure everyone has heard by now.
Is it bad to celebrate someone's death? I understand that this is as much a symbolic victory as anything else. But, still... I'm glad.

I am sitting here experiencing a jumble of feelings waiting for Obama to come on and wondering what this really will do in the end. DH flew into the room a while ago when it was first announced waking me up, he seems to know exactly how he feels.
I don't think it's bad considering how much destruction this guy brought to most of the world.
And let's not forget the 1993 Trade Center bombing either...

I feel like I totally missed something, darn me for going to bed at 10:30! I wake up and see every single FB status after 10:30 last night and they're all about this and I'm all "what the heck...?"
I guess I'm not getting too excited b/c like my husband's (who did not come wake me up, Pooks :P) status said, "Osama exit stage left, next bad guy enter stage right". I just hate that it's never ending, there's always some crazyasss trying to hurt us!

I'm glad that we were able to successfully carry out a mission, but I'm not sure I would be physically celebrating his death, if you kwim?

I am really interested to hear the details myself. The reason I said I was a jumble of emotions was because dh was pretty ecstatic and I feel weird being super happy about death (relieved yes), and not only that but he was almost like a 'backer' people came to him with the 9-11 plan and he financially supported it. When I said I wondered what it would do I didn't mean 'why even kill him' I wondered what the next terrorist act might be in retaliation. I suppose my pessimistic side reared it's head a little.
Being in Metro Detroit (we have largest Middle Eastern American population) I sort of wondered what tensions may arise also, so far it looks pretty good though thank goodness.

I really don't know how to feel. I feel badly for celebrating someone's death, but I can't help but feel relieved. I am so grateful for all of our military and leaders for tirelessly working to keep us safe.
I'm a little afraid of what this will mean for Bin Laden's followers. I'm sure there will be lots of outbreaks of retaliation and that scares me.

We're at Force Protection Bravo, which means upgraded alerts. They sent out an email saying we need to ensure all windows and doors were locked and to periodically survey the builidngs.
We also had a different traffic pattern to get onto post and there were miltary plus the contractor gate guards this morning.
It's in case of any retaliations.
Also, I'm part of a joint base that is airforce commanded, even though we're army, so things may be a bit different.

Not at all when it was such an evil person who died. My area was hit hard with 9/11 so this will bring some closure to the family's of those who were lost in the attacks.

I talked to Jay quickly this morning and we are glad that the threat Osama was is gone. But this will give Obama a reason to pull out of Afghanistan with a half-finished mission. This will cause the region to dislike us even more and definitely provide more grounds for al-qaeda to grow and other terrorist groups in the area to get stronger. Basically, as someone said above "Exit one bad guy, enter the next." It may be a while before the next threat is realized but I don't think it's reason to think everything will be fine now that Osama is gone.
I had this thought too. But then I realized, there are some significant differences between the two scenarios. Osama was an evil mass murderer who willingly and actively participated in war with our country. The nearly three thousand who died on September 11th were innocent. So, although I'm not outside dancing, I can understand why New Yorkers are.
