Sooo...I was watching a local news station called Global News, and the idiot news correspondent said that "Obama" was dead--count them--FOUR times!  She said "Osama" correctly way more often, but I can't believe no one stopped her and told her to get her sh!t together and make her aware of her mistake.  DH got so pissed.

  • I heard that over the Phillies game.. crazy that all the fans started cheering USA, USA and the players had no idea what was going on.  It gave me chills to hear the news and see that reaction though.

    Yes

    Yes

This! My local news talked about it and then had a blip w/Robbin Roberts (w/Good Mordning America) at Ground Zero.  She was talking about all of the families of 9/11 Victims they'll talked with and I started crying.  It really means so much!!

  • I can't even watch the coverage without getting teary eyed. It's amazing! I feel guilty in revaling over the death of another human being but he could hardly be categorized as that and when I think back to what he has done, I am glad he has been eliminated!

That is so infuriating. Sweet jeebus.

There's a very appropriate Mark Twain quote for this occasion: "I've never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure."

    I have felt/thought similiarlly!

  • Zach came in either late last night or early this morning (didn't check the clock), to wake me up and let me know. Yea!!!

That is a great quote to describe it.

  • I also have to say, although it's taken time, I think the timing is excellent.  I was soooo tired of royal wedding post coverage.  They had their day and now it's done, just like the rest of us....I hope that coverage of Osama's death continues to eliminate or at least minimize RW post-coverage!!

But now it's Bump Watch 2011!  (And if you think I'm kidding, Yahoo had an article yesterday about how Charles and William were both born within a year of their parents' weddings.)

I love this, and  stole it for my FB status.

I am so tired of people being highly un-American, bashing the military and the President. Today is a day of celebration. But I must say that I think we need to watch our back, I am sure that we just pisssed off Al-Queida and they will probably be plotting a come back that we need to be ready for.

I have thought this as well!!!

I have two things to say:

    1) why was he already buried at sea.  You think that placating a few million people in America who would need to see his body would trump the personal relgious wishes of a mass-murderer.  I wonder if they lied about burying him.  Seems a bit sketchy if you ask me.  I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but that is just BIZARRE.

    2) I hope that by killing him, he hasn't now been made some sort of martyr in the eyes of radical Muslims.

Because if they buried him on land, people would try to dig up his corpse to prove he was dead. Or desecrate the grave somehow. Besides, what country would want to accept his body? Burial-at-sea seems appropriate to me; let him get eaten by the rest of the sharks.

As for your second point, I'm sure that he's now a martyr to the extremists and there will be retaliation. As much as people want to believe this is the end of it, it isn't. And frankly, the scenes of idiot college kids rejoicing in the streets, waving flags and chanting "USA!" don't help our cause. I'm sure the terrorist camps will be playing that on an endless loop.

I think the bigger issue with a land burial would have been that it gives extremists a central location to gather and create shrines for him.  The creation of shrines could help to support and foster the memory of the man and his sick ideologies.  He is no doubt seen as a martyr already but a burial at sea denies his supporters a symbolically powerful place to worship him.

I need to clarify.  I don't mean why was he buried at sea, I meant why was he ALREADY buried at sea?  Couldn't they have let us see the body first?  Right now it's a bit like, "yeah we killed him!  But there's no evidence, just take our word for it.  Oh yeah, and we buried him at sea so you'll actually never find him."

  • I don't think a guy who has been shot in the head is something anyone needs to see a picture of, no matter who it is. It's likely that there WASN'T anything left of him that was identifiable, save for DNA. And I think it's best that they kept with Islamic law on disposing the body within 24 hours; otherwise, the extremeists would have had one more thing to get riled up about.

And Brynn, I agree with them not wanting a spot for shrine is well.

Edited to add: according to this, there are photos of his dead body, but they are not being released. Thankfully.

Yep this.  I didn't realize there were pictures; although reading a newspaper article this morning, it is weird that they're not releasing, but at the same time, it makes sense.
