I can't believe no one posted about the big news
Bin Laden being dead and all. Crazyness. It's all making me very nervous, like I am just waiting for his followers to carry out some crazy plan he had in place for when he got captured/killed. And I am kind of weirded out that they dumped his body at sea. I mean, what if he washes up somewhere? Did that just add fuel to the fire of the crazies? IDK, it's all very exciting/scary at the same time.
I am listening to C-Span and all these crazy people are calling in. I don't believe he is dead, I want proof. Bush killed Osama, and this is all a hoax. Crazycakes I tell ya.
Re: I can't believe no one posted about the big news
I called DH this morning to go over our emergency plan. It makes me very nervous to be so far from home today.
I am kind of on Osama overload right now between all the news stations and the other boards. There are lots of conspiracy theories out there already about this.
It would be interesting if this were actually true. I think they want to make sure that AQ doesn't have a body to apotheosize or use as a symbol/motivation.
I think it's an excellent example of military and intelligence work.
I agree. I am normally such a conspiracy theorist, but for some reason this doesn't make my ears perk up and go oooooh what is REALLY going on. Perhaps I am just being naive.
I do understand the burial at sea......that way, there is no gravesite to make into a shrine or anything. But the first thing I thought was, oh boy, this is really going to fuel the conspiracy theorists.
I have read several comments this morning that OBL was actually killed by Bush but that was kept secret and now Obama is pretending to have killed him to up his ratings......
This one is hilarious to me.
That is what I heard about the whole dropping him into the abyss. The first picture that jumped into my mind was from Transformers when they dropped the bad one into the ocean.
I too am a little nervous about what is going to happen in retaliation. I was also a little weirded out about all the celebrations around the country. It reminded me of their celebrations after 9/11.
Exactly. Don't get me wrong, I am glad he is dead and I know that gives a lot of people closure. But I thought the same thing....reminded me of the people rejoicing after 9/11 and I would like to think we are better than that.
to me as well. Like any sitting prez would keep something like that classified, no way in hell. Bush couldn't have been elected another term, but that would have at least been seen as a way to boost the Republican party's image.
There is no question there will be retaliation attacks, but IMO the first will be in the middle east and focused on the coalition army, but I am sure they are on high alert. Especially with the recent attacks from Afgan military memebers and impostors.
I also don't understand all the calls to end the war, killing UBL was a symbollic "cutting the head off the snake" planning and training will go on. I'm interested in who else was killed or captured in the attack, if it was Al-Zawahiri that would be awesome.
me too - I heard someone say this is our "V-E day" which is kinda bullshit. WWII required sacrifice on everyone's part. Once there was victory in the war, the soldiers came home. While, I am happy Bin Ladens' dead, its just one chapter in this story. The war will continue, this really doesn't change much going forward.
So true. I haven't read all the replies so I may be echoing someone else, but I have a hard time celebrating when *anyone* dies. I know it's good he is dead, and I am glad, but we still murdered someone...it's not like it's time to jump for joy, IMO.
I make an exception when that person encouraged/planned/financed the murder of thousands of innocent people and then celebrated publically their deaths, and then continued to call for more murders in the name of a religion that doesn't actually promote violence.
I don't mean for that to sound snarky at all, just my exception to the rule when it comes to the loss of human life.
I read that the bag they put him in was weighted. And apparently no countries wanted the remains - can you blame them?
5 cats. 1 baby.
Of course I am a little late...
I agree with you Cooper this is for sure an exception!
