Feather hair extensions

Anyone heard of these?

DH and I were in a model home a few weeks back and the girl in the sales office had a feather near the bottom of her chin/side of her face. After we left DH said, "Was that a feather in her hair?" and I just brushed it off like, "Oh no, I'm pretty sure she had feathers on her earrings." (that's what it looked like, her hair was short/covering her ears...)

I'll be the first to admit I'm not the trendiest person alive, but last week DH said they actually had a news special about feather hair extensions and how Steven Tyler has started this 'fashion trend'. I was like, Huh?

Any hair stylists on the board? Any Nesties on the board thinking of trying this 'fashion trend'? I think I'm just curious as to how you get a feather to stay in your hair. I don't really 'get' it.

Let's discuss.

Re: Feather hair extensions

  • My friends daughters have them - they're pretty cute.  It's just a tie in they do to the hair - kind of like that glitter thread they were doing last year.  It ties in near your root - you have the hair stylist do it.

  • I'd like to see a picture.... I'll have to google this....

ETA: This is not at all what I was expecting... The feathers are much thinner than what I was imagining.  They are kind of cute.  But it's definitely not something I could pull off...

  • My friend who's a hair stylist had one in her hair last time I saw her. I never asked her about it, but the other girls at the salon had them in too.  Must be a new trend, it's cute, but I could never pull it off either.

I think they would look amazing on you.  You are one of the few people I can picture pulling them off.

  • I would maybe try it if I were on vacation, but I would get the side eye at work, if I had feathers in my hair.

    really? thanks. Embarrassed

i was debating about it when i saw them this weekend. i think it is one of those things you just have to have confidence to pull off.

I googled too, and whereas I see a lot of thinner ones online, the one in the girls hair I saw was pretty 'thick'. Tarah/lilnepie - do you know how they stay in? Are they semi-permanent (ie. you leave them in when you shower?) I don't think I'll be getting "on board" with this but I agree it does look cute on some people. It looked cute on the girl bc it was very subtle.

It's $25 at my salon - they stay in for up to a month.  It's $10 to put them back in if they fall out.

Yeah they're semi-permanent - they stay in for about a month.

I have no idea how much they cost sorry...I saw them putting one in a girls hair though when I was there though.  I think they use crimping beads to hold them in place.

  • I was getting my hair done a few weeks ago and the salon owner was so excited because they had just gotten their shipment of feathers. I was confused but then she showed me what they were. She said you can wash/dry/flat iron and curl like normal.
