Bin laden dead..

Re: Bin laden dead..

  • Right now I'm very proud. Until tonight I hadn't thought about how long its been since we had something to celebrate!

I'm proud that the job got done. I'm proud of President Obama. I'm proud that, according to CNN, there were 6 weeks worth secret meetings and no leaks that made this possible. I'm proud of all those people standing outside of the White House and at Ground Zero. I'm extremely proud of those Navy Seals who went in and fought an actual fire fight with no American injuries.

I have hope that this leads to a more peaceful world soon.

  • I'm proud to be an American and I'm extremely proud of our military for putting their lives on the line to find and kill, not only Bin Laden and Sadam Hussein, but many other terrorists and members of Al Qaida, who could have potentially threatened the lives of more Americans.  It may have taken 10 years to find him, but they never gave up, and accomplished what they set out to do.  I'm also very happy for those families of 9/11 victims, who can maybe now have a little more closure over the tragic loss of their loved ones.

    Ditto this.

I also pray that some idiot doesn't try to rise up in his place.

  • It makes Obama's "I have better things to do" remark in regards to the Birth Certificate fiasco all the more awesome :)

I just pray that this leads to peace, and not a surge in the fighting. I hope it can bring our soldiers home, but I know that's naive. I'm also feeling very weary of Pakistan, talk about caught with your hand in the cookie jar... sounds like they were quite aware of bin Laden...

Very proud of the soldiers who carried out the mission!

  • I agree with all the pp...

I went to bed early last night and Ben woke me up saying you have to come see this. (He was watching the Phillies game on ESPN) All the fans at the Phillies game were chanting USA...USA... because of the news about Bin Laden. So I got up and we watched the president speak and some news coverage until about 12:30am. I'm proud of all the service men and women who made this happen!!!

  •  While I so glad, proud, happy we got and killed a man that cost our country so much. I am worried about a retaliation that might and could come from it from people that have pure hatred in their hearts towards the US. While the man is dead his teachings are not and the many people that followed him are not.

But I think the statement is if you mess with us we will hunt you down and kill you. And to me that is a huge statement.

    I totally agree!

  • It's definitely good news, but at the same time, like Carmen said, retaliation is probably imminent. A lot of my friends in England are pissed - I'm sure that there may have been more to the logistics but they are annoyed that the US acted and didn't take into account the repercussions for other countries. I guess there is some news floating around that another 7/7 is imminent in the UK now.

Hmm...I can certainly understand their concern as I have the same concerns, and I know that England has suffered at the hands of these terrorists also...  But at the same time I can't imagine anyone being pissed that such an evil person is dead.  Justice was served and he, personally, is no longer a threat.  That's actually quite upsetting to me to hear that people feel that way.  And how do we know that we aren't making things that much safer by having him gone.  He can no longer mastermind any evil plots and his death could be a huge blow to their morale.

  • Also, I think that the U.S. actually did have other countries in mind in the death of Bin Laden.  I think that the biggest reason we have spent countless dollars and lost thousands of precious lives over hunting down this man was because most feel the entire world would be a better place without him, not just the USA.

that's sort of what I was thinking, Gina, but I'm too tired to find the words.  Do these people realize that they've been very sure he was in this compound since August and had a plan to bomb it in March? It's not as if this was a decision made in haste. Just because they didn't take the risk and share their intelligence with all of the UN doesn't mean that they weren't thinking of the safety of the entire world. I guess I'm sorry they feel that way, but I can't understand that logic..

Ditto this.  He has countless children he has trained as well as followers.

Seeing the people at the White house last night celebrating though made me feel like I was watching some footage from another country though and it didnt sit well with me for some reason.

I do think the public needs to see footage of some sort for proof.  His followers wont believe it, and neither will a lot of Americans unfortunately.

I am glad we gave him a sea burial so no one can meet at his grave and gain more strength from him.  And, glad they gave him a respectful burial process too.
