Did you know...

that apparently if you get your tubes tied it is only 95% effective??? My BFF had her consult for her repeat c-section and they discussed having this procedure and the doctor told her it is only 95% effective. I guess that is because they take into consideration women having the procedure at all ages and the longer you are "fertile" for, the more chances you have for it to fail. So like if you're 25 and have your tubes tied you have years before menopause, vs if you do it at like 40, then it's probably more effective.

I thought (for some reason) that this would be 100% effective. Now she is thinking that her hubs should ALSO get a vasectomy, just in case! hah.

Can you imagine? I guess the only thing that is really 100% is abstinence or hysterectomy. oy.

Re: Did you know...

  • My brother used to play hockey with this kid and his mom was pregnant every 9 - 10 months. After 6 kids the dad went in for a vasectomy and she got pregnant again. So he went to get it checked and I think she got her tubes tied after the last one was born.

    Crazyness...

  • I knew it wasn't 100% as they can sometimes be reversed, but I thought it would be closer to 98 or 99%.  Alexi's cousin's wife got pregnant after he had a vasectomy, but they weren't aware that you have to wait a certain amount of time after the procedure to have unprotected sex.  When she found out she was pregnant she was terrified he'd think she cheated on him!

  • I've seen a couple of cases where people got pg after vascetomy's b/c they didn't wait long enough and/or drop off the sample! crazy. I never heard about it after a tubal, but guess anything is possible!
  • This is way my mom had her tubes cut and tied after my brother.  I don't think it makes it 100% but pretty close.
