Costco Uncooked Flour Tortillas

So, you guys raved about these a while back. And you're right, they're delicious!

But I've having a bit of trouble prying each tortilla away from the others in the stack. The middles always stick leaving me with a tortilla with a hole in the middle. It still happens even after they've been out of the fridge a bit. What's the trick?

Also, can you freeze these? It says not to but I vaguely recall someone saying they do. If so, how do you store and defrost?

Re: Costco Uncooked Flour Tortillas

  • Hmmm...I don't often have the problem of them sticking together in the middle, but I do freeze them all the time.  I usually put one of the 2 packs in the freezer.  I used to put wax paper between the tortillas before I froze them (for ease of pulling out just a couple), but now I just throw the package in the freezer and defrost in the fridge when I am finished with the other pack.  I haven't noticed anything different or weird about the frozen ones...

  • I haven't tried these, but my dad makes the best flour tortilla's.  Hmm...maybe I'll ask him to make some tonight.

  • I mainly have a problem with them sticking when they're a little older.  I usually sort of fan the stack to loosen them.  Otherwise, I'm just careful  You can also sometimes stick them back together and don't notice when they're cooked.

This is pretty much exactly what I do.

  • Sometimes I get holes, but if I'm really careful fanning and then peeling, I don't notice it to be a major problem.

I generally always take one of the sealed bags out of the resealable package and pop it into the freezer.  I just defrost in the refrigerator in the sealed bag within another resealable bag when I'm ready to use them and use them all up within a couple weeks.  I thought it definitely said on the package that they could be frozen though, so that's confusing to me.
