Lasik center referrals/recs requested
My eye doctor recommended someone out of Austin and I was hoping to get some referrals or recommendations from others. Thanks!

Re: Lasik center referrals/recs requested
I had lasik at the Mann Eye Center in Austin, and Dr. Paul Mann was my surgeon. They also do surgery at their Houston location, I believe.
When I had the surgery, I had two appointments prior to surgery day. The first was to check out whether I would be a good candidate for the surgery. The second was more like a typical eye appointment (eyes dialated, etc.). On surgery day, they checked me out again prior to the surgery. I had a follow-up appointment the day after the surgery, and then (if I remember right) saw an eye doctor there for follow up at 3 and 6 months.
Several people I work with have had lasik with Dr. Dell.

Christy and I were actually just talking about this some last night, so I'll throw out my suggestion again of Austin Eye.
Dr. Shannon Wong (he's male not female, heads up) and Dr. John Odette are both fantastic ophthalmologists who perform iLasik procedures at their office on Jollyville road (Dr. Mitchel Wong is there as well, but I prefer the other two for various reasons). They offer complimentary consultations (ie, no money up front) where you can come talk with them one on one to see if you're a candidate for the procedure and to get answers to any questions you might have. If you decide to move forward with them, they can often go ahead and do your full exam in the same visit to save you a trip out. A surgery date can be scheduled pretty quickly -- typically within a week or two.
As far as follow ups, there's a post operative visit the day after your surgery, then usually at 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, and (as needed) 6 months. A huge bonus with them is that every time you go in, you are seen by the doctor who did your surgery, which I hear is pretty rare!
Okay, I just sound like an ad now, so I'll stop. XD
Super interested in hearing some answers on these questions, too! I am so sick of being glasses dependent and considering Lasik before TTC again in August.
I went right home from surgery, and took a 3(ish) hour nap. (My doc gave me valium for the procedure.) I had to wear clear plastic eye protectors taped to my face that entire first day, and if I remember correctly, I wasn't supposed to read or watch a lot of tv. No driving myself anywere. I didn't have any pain, just some eye dryness (which I experienced pre-surgery), and I just made sure to follow their eye drop directions strictly. There were some other restrictions, like no eyeliner/mascara for a certain amount of time, and no water sports for a certain amount of time. I had to sleep in the eye protectors for. . .a week, maybe? They didn't bother me, as much as I thought having them on would keep me from sleeping. I also had to wear glasses for 2 weeks pre-surgery.
At my follow up appointment the day after surgery, the vision check confirmed that my vision was perfect. It was totally surreal!
My health insurance didn't cover the procedure at all. I got a 15% discount by being referred to my doc by another patient, and I think there was an additional discount for paying for it all at once. They did have payment plan options.
Hope that helps!
