How are you 'splitting' up your Mother's Day?

If you do I mean. MIL has the luxury with us of getting all our Mother's Day focus (with GMIL mixed in). I told dh she has been spoiled a bit. How do you guys split your day/weekend up? Does anyone's mother get offended?

For the mother's did/will anything change for your benefit?

Re: How are you 'splitting' up your Mother's Day?

  • well i won't be seeing my MIL at all so that's pretty easy. LOL

my mom doesn't want to go out for breakfast but i do so us 3 will do that and then we'll go to her house for dinner because she insists on cooking.

i personally don't care if my MIL gets offended. i hope she does. then she'll feel how i feel.

now that i'm a mom i don't feel like the day should value my mom's day any less.  i still honor her as much (or even more now that i see firsthand everything she has done for me).  if there is something specific i want to do we'll either do it around what she wants to do or we can do it saturday.

  • L has to work all weekend so both of our moms and L's dad are coming to our house on Saturday and we are cooking out for them.  I live in the town where my sister goes to college and her finals start Monday so it works best for everyone if they come down then!

  • Ugh, mother's and father's day are the thorns in my side.  Since DH and I have lived together in 2007 we have been home for 1 mother's day and never for a father's day.  I hate it and yet I just get his guilt trip of "well when I was your age I lived out of state" bullshits.

So this year again I layed down the law and said, I am working on painting the bathroom and if you're family chooses to organize something prior to the day before, you can let them know I won't be available until late in the day.  Or I told DH he can go by himself.

Right now we're going to MIL's at 5 on sunday.  Thankfully I will see my mom for her birthday on the 20th, so I don't feel as bad this year.  I hate that my parents have basically bent over backwards to make things easier for us (I mean they bought a condo down the road for crying out loud) and yet DH seems to completely forget that when it comes to these days.

    /end my long rant/vent.

  • Well, Nick's mom never brings up holidays until the last minute so we haven't talked to her (and I guess it's really Nick's job to initiate anyway). I have no plans really. My mom is going to be with my grandma on Saturday and I can't go (I wasn't actually invited anyway) and my mom is playing golf on Sunday so I will have to squeeze in time to see her and give her her present.

I asked Nick when we were going to the grocery store this weekend and he said Sunday and I said, that's what every mom wants to do on mothers day. He laughed. So. Like I said, no real plans. I am going to a Stella&Dot party on Saturday so maybe thats my little "me" time and I'll buy myself something.

    I'm rambling.

  • I'm like Pooks in that my MIL gets us to herself. I don't know what we will do. I can offer to cook, but they think we live SO far away when it is really only about 20 minutes. I can see how adding your own kids in the mix changes things.

  • We try to rotate one year to the next. This year will be a bit different though since I'm travelling for school. I'll call my mom, and Drew will go have dinner with MIL and FIL.

  • My mom lives in Florida so I will send her a card & flowers.  Tom's mom passed away so we will probably be working on getting our new garden tilled to prep for planting soon.

  • We are trying to see both moms this weekend, but Andrew wants to make sure we have time to do whatever I would like for Mother's day. We only just decided to get our mom's gifts this year, so now I have to figure out what to get them as well. I know I'm getting some pictures of Xander printed up for them, but not sure what else. I'd love to have a brunch for everyone but we just don't have the room for everyone.

  • We typically do MIL on Mother's Day cause her birthday is the 13th, so we hit it all in one weekend, this year though I told Chris I would like to stay home since I'm a Mommy and not be traveling, so we haven't decided yet. Right now it depends on how my foot is and if the IL's boat is ready to go to the cottage.
  • This week we are celebrating with just my mom and grandma.  We couldn't celebrate easter with them a few weeks ago since we were with the IL's to celebrate some birthdays as well, so we feel that it's fine to do it this way. DH sees his mom once a week when he stays in Buffalo, so he can celebrate then with her if he wants.

In years past we have done joint things with my parents and IL's.  We just don't have the time to do that this weekend.  We have seen IL's two weekends in a row, and will see them next weekend as well. So we certainly can celebrate then if we need to.

  • We never see my mom for mother's day Crying We have a Christian event that we take the teens to every year and every year they have it on Mother's Day weekend. We usually stay in Baltimore the night of since it is a super long day. We get back Sunday afternoon, but by that time it is super late to drive up to NJ and plus we are flipping exhausted. It gets annoying that we never see her for Mother's Day, but I wouldn't want to miss this event either, it is really an awesome event for our teens to go to every year.

We usually try and talk MIL into going out, but she likes to play the martyr and say that we don't have to do anything Confused so we end up going to Bob Evans for dinner Ick!

We usually end up going and seeing my dad for Father's Day instead. So then FIL gets the shaft.

Like Summer I freaking hate the holidays.

  • I can't remember everything we've done in years past, but I know that we have had both sets of parents over and we cooked dinner. Maybe we'll do that again this year. I've been asking Drew what he wants to do for a gift but he's as clueless as I am. Somehow we'll see them both unless my mom is going OOT, which I'll be pissed about.

  • I send my mom and sister flowers since we won't be going to Maine that weekend.  I always make sure I call them.

We have brunch at DH's aunt's house with MIL and GMIL.  Then after we stop by FILs to see SMIL.

  • We haven't been in Michigan for mothers day in probably over 5 years, so it is normally just another weekend for us.  We mail gifts or have our siblings pick up flowers for us to give to them and we call them.  This year, however, we will be in Vegas!

  • Well I have 7 mothers in total, but since we are never back in Tennesse, and they are split across the state, we never do anything for them. We always make sure to call though. I always said that if I loved back home, I would host a brunch for them.

This year, I am actually being good and sending them cards, but there is an ulterior motive. I will feel guilty if Ben and our child do nothing for me and I give them a hard time, if I never do anything for my mothers.

    I heart Ben!!
