WR Idea

My brother proposed to his gf on Easter and DH and I are in the wedding party. FSIL's sister passed away at the age of 12 with cancer (FSIL was 8). I know it will be tough not having her sister by her side for the wedding and was thinking of doing something small, but special to remember her sister. I was thinking of maybe getting a charm with the sister's first initial on it that at the bride (or maybe the MOH??) could attach to the bouquet? Her sister has the same first initial as my brother, though, so I wonder if the guest will just think it is for his name, not that it really matters if the other guests "get it" or not.

Thoughts?

It's hard to know in that situation-- some people like to carry something as a reminder, but for others, it's a hard reminder.

I know several people who didn't incorporate their deceased parent into the wedding because they didn't want to make it more emotional than it already is. Instead, one of my friends did a small blessing on a beach he used to go to with his parents (both had died).

  • Hmmm...I know this is sensitive area. Is it possible to ask her or her FI?

My sister reserved a seat for my mom that said "Mother of the Bride" at the ceremony. Then she had a framed picture of her and my mom at the guest book area.

Is there a pin or a broach she can incorporate that reminded of her sister? Maybe a monogram?

I put a pendant that my mom wore with a picture of my mom and I when I was a baby on my bouquet.

  • I agree that it's a sensitive issue and you might want to ask your brother (or her) first.  My BFF died when we were 24, and 3 of the 4 of us who were her best friends pinned a brooch of hers that her parents gave us to our bouquets (the other was already married).  It was more meant for us, though, so I don't think it matters if the guests get it or not.  It's a Wedgwood she got from a trip to England, so it also counted as our "something blue.  We plan on offering it as a something blue to our daughters for their weddings - although between the 4 of us, we're 0 for 5 as far as girls go!

In any case, I think you're very thoughtful for thinking of doing something like this for her.
