Re: s/o Mother's Day

  • our families do get along. my parents have had them over for a few holidays but once i realized that it only stresses james out, i asked my mom not to invite them.

he prefers stopping over to their house and being able to leave when he wants.

  • Do your parents/family get along with his parents/family? Yes

Do you do a lot of family functions together? Well we went on a cruise together.  We did Easter together.  It really just depends if my parents are in town or not.

  • Yes, they get along but Nick's parents are divorced and his dad is about an hour drive away so we don't usually do group things with them as much. Big things like Campbell's birthday we do.

Other family functions, if necessary, we combine - like two years ago it was easier to do mothers day brunch with his mom and my mom. And his mom was invited to Easter at my parents but made other plans.

  • I'll add that I like the convenience of all together BUT my dad is a little picky (can be construed as snobbish) and makes his opinion known with his facial expression or "humph" sounds (so does my mom but she's more discreet - so I'm lucky to get that part of my personality from both of them!) and so it makes me a little nervous to have him around Nick's parents because I worry if my dad will offend them by not liking something.

  • Do your parents/family get along with his parents/family? Yes

Do you do a lot of family functions together? No. My ILs are set in their ways that having holidays together would be a nightmare. We will only do one birthday party for Xander and our second baby when we have one though.

  • Do your parents/family get along with his parents/family? I suppose, though my sisters find MIL as annoying as I do and they are familiar with some of my 'beefs' with her.

Do you do a lot of family functions together? Nope, we had Thanksgiving once at our house (it was our first hosting gig) and it was horrible, when dh and I walked into the dining room once all the food was served our families had evenly split over two tables leaaving two open chairs and YUP you guessed it they were at seperate tables. That day still annoys the $hit out of me since dh's family sat down well before mine. Like seriously you couldn't mix it up for our sake??????

  • They get along really well. We've hosted Thanksgiving for everyone, and we'll be doing Easter next year as well. We don't do a lot together, because my folks are 3 hours away. But when they are in town, we try to at least do dinner together. It's important to Drew and I that they be able to spend time together, they don't have to be best friends or anything, but we want to establish it now before grandkids happen.

  • They get a long, but considering we are in NJ, my parents are in Philly and IL's are in Buffalo, we don't do any holidays together.  We separate them, like Xmas-we do at my parents then drive up to his.  Easter, was at my SIL's house this year, then on Easter we stopped by my parents on our way home for dinner. Memorial Day/4th and Labor, we don't really celebrate but we are at cottage and Thanksgiving Dinner is at our house, but we don't do it together, it would be way to many people. So IL's and Chris's Aunt and Uncle come down and then we go to my parents the next day.

  • Do your parents/family get along with his parents/family? yes

Do you do a lot of family functions together? My parents have started coming to DH's family's big thanksgiving.  Also have done some of the other holidays together.  There is about an hour distance between them, so nothing too bad. Just depends on scheduling if it will work out or not to do things together.

Ha!  Now I'm intrigued!  What is unfortunate?  :)

  • Do your parents/family get along with his parents/family? eh I guess so. Really my IL's get a long with everyone, but I feel as though sometimes my parents "tolerate" my IL's. Just like Summer, my dad is super picky so I generally don't like them getting together because I'm afraid my parents will offend IL's or vice versa

Do you do a lot of family functions together? Nope, at least not yet. They are about 2 1/2 to 3 hrs apart so it makes it a little difficult. Plus, if we were to do a family function together we would want it to be at our house, and currently it is a little too small for that. Is it bad that I don't even want to have joint functions? I feel as though I wouldn't enjoy myself if they were all together. I would constantly feel like I couldn't have a good time. I dunno, maybe that is irrational, but it is just the way I feel. We are all getting together after my graduation to go out to dinner, but that is as far as it will go...for now.

  • Do your parents/family get along with his parents/family? Yes, but it took a while for my mom not to be jealous that we saw them more often because they are a lot closer.

Do you do a lot of family functions together? We have hosted Mother's Day twice with them together but we split for every holiday and alternate Thanksgiving and Easter but make a trip to both places for Christmas.  I hope when we have kids, we can just host everything and they will all come to the same place.  They get along really well.

It's unfortunate that my MIL is ALWAYS around. I had to spend all weekend with her and wanted to murder her. She was a complete drunk all weekend, who was obnoxious and embarrassing.

  • Yes, they get along.

We will occasionally do a holiday together depending on who is in town and what everybody's plans are. We did Thanksgiving together last year because Drew's parents and us stayed in town instead of going to GA. Christmas is always separate because that's just how our traditions go. I'll probably invite them to my sister's grad party.

  • Do your parents/family get along with his parents/family?  Yes very well.  The only one that doesn't get along is MIL with FIL.  I understand why she holds such a grudge against him, even 32 years after getting divorced.  He's very friendly to her so it's just how MIL acts towards FIL.

Do you do a lot of family functions together? Nope due to my parents living 3 states away.  I'm sure that will change once my little boy arrives.

  • Do your parents/family get along with his parents/family? Yes but both sides of our family are so easy going.

Do you do a lot of family functions together? Not as of yet because they live on the other side of the state from my family. We did have our college graduation party and everyone came, and obviously a bridal shower for me and our wedding. The plan is, when we move back to TN we will get both sides of our family together to celebrate the holidays, and I am sure it will happen a lot more with the baby on its way.

    I heart Ben!!
