Anyone wanna learn how to run?

I really want to become a runner, but I don't want to do it by myself. Anyone wanna join me? we can figure out a location and times to suit everyone.

Re: Anyone wanna learn how to run?

  • ::butting in:: i always have moments of weakness where i convince myself i'd totally love running...then i remember it hurts my knees, and i run like phoebe from friends.
  • well, MrB just joined a running group last weekend. He said they had all kinds of runners - you're put into a pace group. Its not free, but its much less than a personal trainer or a yearly gym membership.

IIIIIIIII am NOOOOOOOOOOT a runner. MrBAMF does not understand this standpoint. Confused

Thanks for the rec, but it appears to be geared towards those who are already runners who are training for marathons. I'm so out of shape that I don't think I'd make it into a "pace" group, because I can't run a mile all at once. I have to take breaks to walk a bit and catch my breath.

  • Yeah, I read all the H&F running posts and I envy them, but that is just so not me. I only run if something is chasing me, or if it's raining. With my low vision, I can't even walk around the block, I couldn't imagine running and just plowing into a low branch, shrub, curb, etc. Maybe one day, but only on a track.

Side note, I ran out to the mailbox and back in the rain the other day and didn't want to die when I got inside. Yay! It's the little things!

it is, BUT they have training/walking groups. They group people based on ability.

MrB said there were a lot more women than men when he went last week.

    What about C25k?

  • I might be interested but I have a feeling our locations and schedules might be off (I like to go during the week in the morning before it warms up.) Though, I just finished C25K and I'm considering finding a different activity b/c frankly, I just cannot seem to get into running.

I can do C25k, I just want to do this with someone. I need motivation and accountability, not to mention working out with others is just more fun that doing it alone.

Starting next week I will be working from home 4 days a week, so we could make something work I'm sure. :)

oh, that's right! btw, there is no shame in running/walking. i've heard you burn more fat during intervals anyways Wink

  • So I called the GetFit people. Dana called me back right away, and encouraged me to join, and let me know that there are tons of beginners and I will not stand out at all. So I think I'm going to do it!
  • I would be willing to jog with you. I did Couch25K and was pleased but need to keep up my endurance.  We are going back to Rio in October and my goal is to start out the day jogging the entire length of Copacabana( which is 6k) so I really need to keep training per say.

  • I'd be interested. I used to try to jog/run on my own and quit. I was going to the parks off Azalea/Riverside in Roswell. It's been awhile though. I need the accountability as well. Right now, I can only do weekends until my job decides it wants to let me leave when I am supposed to.

I know Dana. She rocks! They really want people to get fit and get in shape. It's a really good program/organization!

  • I only run if something large and scary is chasing me (bear, big dog, etc.).

Let me know if you do - MrB could only tell me how it was from his standpoint and not the slowasswalker group that'd I'd fit in to. He said they're adding a "black" level for his people. Ya know. Under 8-min milers to up their VO2Max... Confused

He wants me to join but at my rocking 17min mile pace, I don't see the point. I feel like I am DYING on a treadmill. P90X? No problem! Elliptical? Sure! Bike? Sure! Treadmill? ZOMG WHEN DOES THIS ISHT END?!?!

I'll let you know, I'm sure it will be fine. Dana promised me in 6 months I'd be marathon ready. I'm not sure about that, LOL.
