How to know if your interview has not gone well...

I feel like it's sometimes hard to judge the vibe of my interviews, but I just had one yesterday morning that I'm pretty sure didn't go well, but when I spoke to my current supervisor (I'm in a 1 year placement in the Americorps program), she seemed to think it went better than I did.

Do you ever have something specific happen that gives you the hint that the interview just did not go well?

Yesterday one of the interviewers went into a lot of detail about the process for someone who will not get the job and barely said anything about what would happen if I was still a candidate for the job (unless it's possible that they do not contact whoever they'd like to hire for the next 6 weeks).  Could just be that he doesn't want to answer "follow up" phone calls from the people he's interviewing since it's a goverment agency and the process takes a while, but I left the interview feeling pretty sure that I won't hear from them again...I just can't tell if that's because I don't have  much confidence left or because it really didn't go that well.

Re: How to know if your interview has not gone well...

  • I had a phone interview where I had no idea how well it went. I ended up getting a face to face interview and a job offer.

I try not to read into anything too much. I also tend to not stress one way or another, and just be pleasantly surprised if they call with good news.
