need advice...

Sorry if any of this is TMI, but  I'm not sure what to do yet...

I didn't take my BC from the time of the wedding-Jan this year. Started it back up in February ( I'm on Nuvaring). I got a light period in March then in April I basically just spotted. Well it's been 2 weeks since my last "period" and I'm spotting again. Now I'm so nauseated, I'm an emotional wreck (crying over anything and everything) and my breasts hurt. There are only 2 times that DH and I can come up with that I would have gotten PG, one being the end of February right after i just started back on it, and a week and a half ago when I was in between rings...  Is it possible that I got prego a week and a half ago and I'm already having symptoms? Could I have gotten prego back at the end of Feb. and still have the "periods" and only start having symptoms now? My one friend thinks I should take a test now. DH wants me to wait until he is home, which isn't until next Thursday.

Side note- It is the end of the semester and I have a lot of work that I'm finishing up. I also found out I'm going to be failing a class b/c I couldn't get all my volunteer hours in on time. I finished up most of my work yesterday and could feel the stress lifting from me, and I definitely feel more relaxed, but my symptoms have gotten worse.

I'm thinking that waiting until next week could be a good idea b/c if it is just stress from school causing all of this then everything might go away after I'm done with school on Monday. and if the symptoms are still around by Thursday then I'd have an even better idea that I might be prego?

What do you ladies think?? I'm so confused.

  • I think you should take a test! If it's negative, I suggest you talk to your doctor :)

I agree with this.  If it turns out you are pregnant, it's probably good to know sooner rather than later so you can start vitamins and such.

On the other hand, I always get stress symptoms after the stress begins to lift.  It's like my body catches up with me or something.

    Hope you're feeling better soon!

I agree with this too! When I have lots of stress or change in my diet...my period is always messed up, my body seriously hates me these days! LOL!  So the symptoms could just be caused by the stress you are going through right now!  I would still take a test though :)

Everything the pp's said!  Stress can really take a toll on the body, and so can starting and stopping medications.  Taking a test might settle your nerves one way or the other.  GL!!

  • I agree with the previous ladies...if there is the slightest inkling of a chance you could be pregnant, I'd take a test now. You'd want to know sooner rather than later (so you can take out the ring! and start vitamins, etc). Plus this is an easy way to put your mind at ease. You're probably adding to the school stress that you already have by wondering and being in limbo. This way you'll know for sure.

I agree!! I know it'd be nice to have DH there when you take the test, but it's a good thing to know, especially since you're looking at a week until he gets back!

  • I'm on the same BC adn between that BC and the stress of losing my dad i also had a scare that was about hte same symptoms. It was like having a period w/o the period. I really thought i was pregnant, but thank goodness no.

That being said, I absolutely took tests when i missed my period for 2 months straight (aside from a few drops on the 1st month it didnt really come). THey were negative so after ther first neg. one i called my OBGYN and she told me it was not AT ALL uncommon for that to happen w/ the NuvaRing, not to mention all the extra stress i was under.

So you may not be pregnant, but its best to know sooner rather than later. I understand your husband wanting you to wait until he comes home, but its best to know ASAP. especially if you could potentially be pregnant from february, you want to take caer of yourself the best you can!

  • ditto all the pps. Test.

Many early pregnancy symptoms are also PMS symptoms, so many people get confused or suspect when it's really just PMS. If you just started up on the ring again, your body may be adjusting. When I was on the ring the first few months sucked because my body wasn't used to all the hormones, so I got many PMS symptoms when I never had ever been PMS-y before. Also, my period got lighter as I progressed on the ring, so that they were very very light and only 2-3 days long.

this...I would definitely test, better to know.  It definitely could just be stress, but I would want to know for sure.  Good Luck!

  • I took a test and it was negative. We'll see if all the symptoms go away as the semester draws to an end. If not, then I'll be taking another test. I'm also not supposed to get my next "regular" period for another 2 weeks, so I don't know if it was maybe too early. Thanks for all the suggestions and advice ladies.

  • I'd say it's definitely possible to have symptoms that early.  I was feeling fatigued and my boobs got a bit bigger before I "had" my missed period.  If you want to try a test, you might want to wait until you're closer to when you would get your period.  I believe that the tests are more accurate the closer you are to your missed period.

  • i would test. while it could really just be stress, you want to know for sure! agreeing with pp, then it would either put your mind at ease, or allow you to take out the ring and start prenatals.

side note: my boobs basically started hurting like holy cow pretty much the minute i concieved, and i'm pretty sure they yelled at Derek the next time he tried to come near them (or was that me? prego brain makes you forget things Stick out tongue) i know it's not much of a consolation, but at least it might make you giggle :)

  • test, but also, when i used to be on nuvaring, it made me overly emotional, and also my breasts hurt temporarily while on it. it was SUPER weird, but i remember telling DH about it cause they were really tender.

  • I've been on Nuva Ring for around 7 years now, and have never had side effects like this before, that's why we're thinking it'd either stress or being pregnant. Thanks again Ladies. I'll keep you posted.
