character flaws

what is a personal trait that someone may have that you think is a huge character flaw?

Re: character flaws

  • for me its when someone thinks that their time is more valuable than yours.

for instance, they are always late or they cancel/postpone things especially last minute. also work related, when you are speaking to a boss or coworker and another person comes over and interrupts. this gives me the impression that they cant be bothered to wait and/or feel what they have to say is more important than what i have to say.

this irks me to NO end and i think that its a huge character flaw.

  • When people think they are entitled to the world. Just because you have money does not make you a better person than I am. I work hard for what I have and I don't expect people to bow at my feet.

Latest example: I caught an episode of Pregnant in Heels and omg! The one lady chose to have a c-section because giving birth was hard work and she doesn't do any work. Really? Hmm

This just made me SO angry.  I feel like I was robbed of the experience of natural child birth that as woman I am privileged to have because I HAD to have a c-section for the safety of my child and myself.  For someone to choose to have a c-section because labor is hard work really rubs me the wrong way.  Having to have a c-section made me feel like less of a woman, I can't imagine choosing to have one for the reason of not wanting to do any work.

  • When people think the world revolves around them. I hate hate hate it when people think that everyone should drop everything to either hang out or attend something they are hosting (esp when they do it on a regular basis). Sorry but I don't have time to attend your pampered chef party, birthday party & house warming party when they are all in the same month. What? You think that every one of my weekends (or at least 2 a month) should revolve around you somehow ?? Sorry, but fat chance.

I also hate it when people brag about something they have to people they know can't afford it. Ex: constantly brag about just buying a house to someone that lives in an apt and will most likely never be able to afford a house. Also, when the person then turns around and trash talks living in an apt to that same person. Extra "hate it" points when the person is the same type as above and constantly "invites" said people to help move into, paint, clean, etc. the new house.

OMG THIS!  This is my main problem with DC- everyone thinks whatever they have going on is so much more important than what you're doing.  Like, people will cut you off or crowd push you to catch a crowded train when another one is coming right behind it.  Chill out yo.

*nods* i got ranty on facebook on Sunday because I was at the grocery store, it was pouring rain, and i had all these bags in my hands, and people in their warm, dry cars couldnt be bothered to stop to let me cross the street while i was standing in a cross walk. seriously, you cant stop for THREE seconds?

A woman I know IRL does this constantly.  She'll ask me a question, I'll start to answer and she'll cut me off with a story from her experience.  I feel like she asks questions that she wants to answer and doesn't really care what I have to say at all.  So I end up sitting there listening to her tell stories, half of which I've already heard at least three other times because she does this any time we get together. She's been the only person I've really seen since I've been on maternity leave and at first it was better to hang out with her than to sit home all day, but now I've been avoiding her because I can't deal with it anymore.

THIS!  Except it was really nice out so I didn't really mind waiting but I was downtown and waiting to cross the street with Alex in the stroller on Saturday, the cars had a stop sign and there was a cross walk and they kept rolling up into the cross walk and flying through doing the "pause stop."  Ten cars did this before one lady finally gave me the wave to let me go.  Usually if it's just me, I'll just start walking to make them stop for me, but I'm not messing around like that when I have Alex with me.  I just couldn't believe that only one out of ten drivers will stop for a pedestrian with a stroller who has the right of way in a cross walk.

  • lately I'm really sick of people who think they can ask you to do something and you'll respond in 5 minutes having already done it. Um, no. Not only does that assume I'm checking email constantly (which I make a conscious effort not to do on weekends), but that I have nothing better to do than follow their orders. And many of these "favors" need more than 5 minutes or an hour or a day to get done.

Also when people criticize a job you've done when you've done the best you could with limited resources. People need to walk in each other's shoes a bit more and have a little more understanding for all the circumstances. I guess the first one stems from lack of understanding for others' circumstances, too.

Also lack of tact or whatever it is that makes a person think it's ok to ask me how soon my grandma will die so they can hire her caretaker.

People just piss me off sometimes.

Indifferent  Someone really did that?!  How incredibly rude.

  • One of the things I cannot stand is a sense of self-entitlement so much so that they don't think they can do any wrong but rather the world revolves around them.

Also, people who think they're sneaky by playing dumb.  I see through you.  I'm a lot smarter than you give me credit for.

And of course -- the fakers.  Saying one thing to someone, turning around and suddenly changing your mind/liking something different to win the favor of someone else.  Oy.

yes, her own stepdaughter-in-law. I've always disliked this woman, but now I really despise her.

  • For me, the biggest one is people who don't let you get a word in edgewise, or constantly try to one-up you. I can't stand the one-uppers.
  • Dishonesty would have to be my number 1 most hated trait.

Agreed. This and being late. Here and there is fine because it happens but if you're constantly late? SOO RUDE. Get it together!

I also am not a fan of people who constantly complain about everything yet make no effort to change their situation or do anything to make things better. If you're not going to do anything about it, you dont really have a right to complain. I dont want to hear it.

OMG totally. Especially when they post about how hard they have it all over the interwebs.

Good one!  I'm so sick of reading FB status about problems that I know the friend has had for years and has made no attempt to fix.  Complaining just to get sympathy annoys me.

One-uppers make me nuts. Especially when they also one-down you. I had a friend in HS and if I complained about something, like only getting 6 hours of sleep, she only got 4. If I was up coughing all night, she's been up the last 3 nights. If I had to stay after school an hour to work on a project, she stayed 4. It was just odd.

I also hate people that brag about money and/or constantly complain they don't have any. I went to nursing school with a girl who would brag about how much money her husband made, how much extra money she got while he was deployed. How she didn't need student loans (like I did) because she had the money to pay cash for everything. But then when we were in our other friend's wedding, she'd complain about spending $50 on her shower because it was so much money.

  • I'm with K-hart and MB: liars and two-facers. I can't stand being lied to. If you don't like me/something I did/etc, tell me. I DO appreciated constructive criticism and will appreciate you a LOT more for telling me the truth. And I truly can't stand it when people talk about other people behind their backs (while saying lovely things to their face and pretending to be their friend). My MIL is very good at both.
