home carpet cleaner machine that actually works?

our cats barf on the carpet at least once a week and one of our dogs is getting old and starting to have accidents. of course, we have white carpet.

we've been using spot shot and sponges/paper towels but it's just not cutting it.

does anyone have a carpet cleaning machine that actually WORKS?

Re: home carpet cleaner machine that actually works?

  • We bought this one a couple months ago and have been happy with it. We used to use a cheaper crappy Bissell that DH's dad paid $100 for and it was crap. We might as well have used the paper towels/sponege for as good as the thing worked. This one is more expensive, but it works well.

I think carpet cleaners are something where you get what you pay for.

  • We just rent a Rug Dr. about once every 6 months and it works awesome!  Our dog had a major accident (while she was sick) all the way across our apartment living room that had white carpet.  I was pretty sure we'd be paying to replace that carpet, but a few times over it with a rug dr and everything came clean and the carpet looked great!  I realize this isn't helpful if you're looking to buy one, but its a relatively cheap option as they are only about $25 a time to rent.

  • We have the bissell little green machine and its worked wonders for our carpet...our dogs got sick at my cousin's in colorado a few weeks back so we made a 3am trip to walmart to get one and you couldn't even tell that they'd had an accident after we were done.

We have a Bissel ProHeat 2x and love it.  We use ours on a regular basis.

  • We have this one and I really like it- http://www.bissell.com/spotbot-deep-cleaner/  We usually clean up the mess and then stick this over the spot and it works it out for about 2 minutes and BAM! it's gone! We first started out with a larger carpet cleaner but it was too much hassle to take out ever time we had an accident and the vomit or diarrhea would get in the tubes of the cleaner and would stink. It was just a pain to use for accidents. Was better if you needed to clean a whole room. Before our Spot Bot, we had another hand held Bissell that worked well and was really easy to clean but as it got older it would loose it's charge pretty fast. Our Spot Bot plugs in. Also, I bought the jar of powder from Zerorez that is all natural and specifically for pet stains. You just mix it with hot water and I use that in a spray bottle and in our Spot Bot. Works great! Other cleaners with soap can attract dirt and make your carpet look worse over time.

This!  We got one a few months ago, and it's totally worth it.  We got a refurb'd on from Ebay, actually. I think we spent $60 with shipping. It was wonderful!

  • I don't own one but my grandma, aunt, and sister-in-law all swear by Bissel's Little Green Machine. Good luck!
