I hate bringing up gas prices but..

It just got me $40 to fill my civic!

OMG-I clearly haven't filled up in a while.  I had to do a double take.

I was going to buy a new car in the text few months and now I've decided not to!

Re: I hate bringing up gas prices but..

  • Yeah...cost me $51 to get from quarter tank to full in my Taurus [I was below quarter tank, but I wasn't near empty]. My mom said it cost her $30 to get from 3/4 to full [she has an '11 Odyssey].

It's effing ridiculous. I've had to scrap my summer road trip plans because gas is eating away at our budget. Holy crap. I'd love to pay $40 to get from E to full.

  • We've been borrowing my parents' minivan for the last month or so. (They're letting us use it until we leave the country.) I think it has the same size gas tank as the Camry - if it's bigger it's only by 2 gallons. It costs about the same to fill either up, but we can go twice as far in the Camry on one tank of gas. Stinks.

  • So what is regular gas priced at in your area? I think it's $3.85 here.

I paid $3.83 for regular here.

  • It cost me $45.50 to fill up my civic this morning! My gas light was on, so it was for a full tank, but my goodness!

  • The last fill up on my Galant cost me almost $70, but gas is hovering around $4.50 a gallon.

Are you freaking kidding me?! Holy crap woman!

    It's $3.79 here...but I put gas for $3.62 at a Sam's in OKC over the weekend.

  • $73 to fill up the FX35 at 4.29 a gallon I think.

    Hoooray.

I did too yesterday. And note: NJ is full serve.
  • Most places are like 4.45/4.47 if I really search I might find one for like $4.39. I hate the gas tax in CT its like 70 cents a gallon
  • Thanks Vikki! I don't feel so bad about $4.29 for regular here.

What kills me is the DH's car gets about 17 mpg, and he puts premium in it!  Kills me every time!

What the hell is he driving? Does it require premium?
  • I'm running from 50-60 to fill up my ford edge.  Gas is around $3.85 now.  Last week it was $3.71.  If they keep going up, I may have to apply for jobs closer to home....it's awful!

That kind of sounds like me...I think my car gets about 18/19 MPG though.

I have to put premium in the Infiniti though.According to MH. And the car.

  • Yeah, there are still some cars that require premium, and there's not much you can do about that.  But there are also people who just like to use it, even when their cars will take regular.  I'm just curious.

The lowest mileage I ever had from a car was the Mustang GT.  18 or so city driving, 22 or so highway.  Much as I loved it and miss it, I'm glad I don't have it right now.  The CR-V even does better, despite not being terribly aerodynamic.  I'm glad it's a 4-cyl.

My '93 Escort was probably the best, at 32 or so.  And the red Focus was pretty good - high 20s, I think.  The blue Focus got less; it was older and didn't run as well.

  • It cost me $65 to fill up the Highlander last week. It was running on fumes before that. That was when gas was at $4.05 but this week it shot up to $4.29.

What I don't get is that in Peoria it is currently $4.29 but literally across the river in East Peoria it is still $4.03. Do a few miles really add that much to the service and delivery charges???

    Yay for the Galant!!

I hate the huge gas tank though.

  • It's about $3.90 here right now, but what kills me is that it was .30 cents cheaper just one week ago. WTH!!?!? It still only costs us about $40 to fill up a tank of gas, but we're borrowing the IL's crappy van until DH's car gets fixed, and that sucker takes like $80 to fill it up. So we don't fill it up all the way and try not to drive it too much.
  • Ha, I miss the days when it cost me $20 to fill my tank.

Meg, you should see the difference between Manhattan's prices & prices in NJ just across the river.  It's a walkable distance and the price difference is sick.

    Erik's jeep gets 14.8 or 15 mi/gal - 17 would be great. I just paid $72 @ $3.89/gal. it's never been $40 for me to fill up my tank ! It's always been $55 And up !

OMG, what year is the Jeep?!  I think Eric's '94 Grand Cherokee is actually similar; maybe it's a good thing it's not working right now and we're only using my car?

I have a bad feeling gas will never been below $3.50 again.  Makes me crazy.  There are things I don't mind spending money on.  Gas is NOT one of them.

At least none of us has my high school boyfriend's vehicle, huh?  It was a 1986 (or '85?) Chevy Silverado on enlarged tires & raised axles.  Got SIX miles to the gallon and had TWO gas tanks.  It was bad then, but would be a nightmare now.

  • It's crazy how expensive it is in Europe for gas. Just looking at their prices leads me to believe that we're just going to have to adjust our budgets and accept higher fuel cost.

Obama was talking about removing tax breaks from oil companies, however, what would stop them from passing along those new costs/fees to the consumers?

My CRV tank takes $51 to fill.

  • When I first bought my truck a month ago, it only took $55 to fill up from empty.  Just last week, it took $74!!  Luckily, I only have to fill up once a week!  I'm going to fill up when it's on half, so I'm not spending so much money at one time!  Yikes!  You have to adjust your budgets just for gas.

  • It cost me just over $70 to fill up my Nitro last night.  That's $3.84/gallon which, as of this morning, is pretty typical around here. Unfortunately, I have to fill up at least once a week.  I have no idea how many miles/gallon DH's Dodge Ram gets, but I'm fairly certain it's less then 17.  He never completely fills his truck - just costs to much.

  • Yeah, I put in like $20 at a time so it feels less painful.  That's almost half a tank.  Almost.

I drive so much for work, it's sick.  But at least I get reimbursed for that driving - not enough, but it's something.  The IRS reimbursement these days is $0.51/mile, right?  If I still had the Escort, I might actually be making money on the deal.  Not so much with the CR-V.

  • We filled up last Thursday for $29 on our way back from visiting family, we were almost empty. I think the gas was $3.67. We at about half a tank right now but we're going to fill up today because my Gas Buddy app on my phone shows two gas stations that have gas for $3.69, every other one is 3.79-3.85.

We have a bunch of traveling to do in the next month too. SIL graduates Saturday and then Saturday night is my brother's fiancee's bachelorette  party. Then we go on a field trip with my younger brother Wednesday. Brother graduates Friday then bridal shower for him and his fiancee that Saturday... then we move... then they're wedding.

At least our car gets pretty awesome gas mileage. Averages about 32 city/37-38 highway.
