Going to a wedding this weekend

So when I was getting married, I took into account that 15 out of 20 of our bridesmaids/groomsmen were attending with a significant other and passed on having a head table.  I thought that if anyone brought someone who didnt know anyone else, it would be nice to at least sit eat with them.

So my husband and I are going to a wedding this weekend in Michigan and he is a groomsman.  The groom is one of his friends from high school whom I have met once.  I have never met the bride.  I have never met anyone else who will be at this wedding.

The bride just emailed out an itenerary.  For the rehearsal dinner, the wedding party is supposed to show up at 6 and everyone else at 7.  The day of the wedding the party is supposed to report to their specific places by 1pm and the wedding starts at 5pm.

My question is, when do I go?  Should I drop my husband off at these places, then later navigate around an unknown town by myself?  Should he ask for a ride from another groomsman?  Then at the wedding I guess I will be sitting at a table with the other spouses of the wedding party but who knows.

Also, totally unrelated, but I am in nursing school and my final is next Tuesday.  I dont want to sound disrespectful but I would rather hide out in our hotel room all day and study.

  • My suggestion would be to have your H ask the groom when you are supposed to show up.  Since he is the one in the wedding party, it would make more sense for him to ask what you should do.  GL!

  • Can you go with H and find a quiet place to study while they do their wedding party stuff? I think any of your ideas would work, too - for the day of, see if H can ride with someone or drop him off and go study for a while. I don't blame you for that!! For the record, I was an ex's date for his bro's wedding and the bridal party sat at the head table while their dates had a different table. Since none of us knew anyone else, we ended up having an enjoyable dinner together, reveling in our awkwardness. It was fun.

  • I think it's kind of lucky, actually. You can drop off DH and go back to the hotel and get some hours of studying in.

And like Phatkat said, you and the other wedding party S/O's will all be in the same boat. You aren't going to be the only person there who doesn't know anyone. Although it's awkward go and enjoy the ceremony, the music, the venue, food, drinks. Reflect back on your own wedding and dance with your husband. Have fun - I love weddings!
