Harry Potter

So I'm watching the new Harry Potter movie, and cannot get over how much I freaking LOVE Harry Potter!  From the first book all the way until the sixth, I was the same age as Harry.  I grew up with this series, and cannot believe that it will officially be over in a couple of months.  Then I will have to officially say that my childhood has ended... at 23.

DH cannot stand the books, but will tolerate the films, so he's putting up with me blubbering and talking during this movie.  I saw it twice in the theaters, and somehow it's just not getting old.  The seventh book was by far my favorite, save for the epilogue, and I am just in love with this movie.  It's bittersweet feelings for me about the final movie coming out this summer.

 Anybody else a Potter fanatic?

    Agreed!

I've read all the books at least three times, and I've seen all the movies. I don't own any of them, but I told DH he could get me the whole run of them on bluray for Christmas. 2/25-2/26 we were at Universal, and let me tell you, the WWoHP is AMAZING!!! Not just visually, but they really try to give you the whole experience. At Zonko's if you buy a pygmypuff (which of course I did) they ring this huge bell to get everyone's attention and yell "ladies and gentlemen, (insert chosen name) the pygmypuff is going home today. Can I have a round of applause" and it's just really cool. The butterbeer is pretty delicious as well, although super sweet. I dropped about $200 on a Slytherin robe, and the Elder wand,  Slytherin travel mug, decorative mug, tie and patch. Guess what I'm being for Halloween for the next few years. I'm totally wearing my robe to the midnight showing of the next movie. I don't care that I'm 25 and married. My husband and I actually wore our Hufflepuff (him) and Slytherin (me) shirts today.

  • Love Harry Potter and I will probably bawl like a baby when the final movie ends because I was torn up when I finished the last book.  I'm such a dork -- I finished the 7th book, closed it and cried for a little bit because it was all over.

  • I'm with you girls.  I loved the books.  I've read them all at least 10 times (and that's probably a pretty low estimate).  I just made H watch Part 1 of the last movie at an outdoor theater that was playing it last month.  I can't wait for the next one, but as with the books, I'm sure I'm going to be super sad that they are finished.

  • DH and I are really excited about the movie, too. I was sad when I finished the 7th book, but I never got into the movies like I did the books. The movies are ok, but I've been disappointed with some of the directors. Part 1 of Deathly Hallows is the only movie that I've thought was actually well done.

  • I too am a nut for HP, but more for the books than the films.  That being said I am there, opening day, for all of the movies.  I think I started crying at some point during book 4 and basically cried once during every book since!  Might have even started with book 3...the whole godfather business you know...

I re-read the series before every movie comes out too.  Am I 26??  Yes, yes I am.  Do I care that I'm "too old" to love HP?  Not so much :-)  It's frankly just a very well-written series that appeals to all ages and therefore I think it is awesome.  I am convinced Harry Potter books got a good chunk of the population to pick up a book and read for pleasure.

TANGENT:  If you girls haven't read the Thursday Next series, (starts with The Eyre Affair) I HIGHLY recommend it.  It's got the whimsy, creativity, and heart of Harry Potter, but with the humor of Monty Python and other quirky British things.  It's also geared towards adults...which technically speaking we all are! If you are an avid reader and have any knowledge of the classics, you will find it especially humorous.  It's not about magic in the witch/wizard sense, but I found them to be pretty special too.
