BR: Rotating Toys

Sorry for being a complete pw! I'm just getting caught up on my nesting :-)

After G's birthday we plan to pack up her toys and rotate them; as she has so many right now and gets bored easily.

Now the question: Do you put the same items in the tote (all her little people in one, etc) or kind of sort it out (a few little people sets in each, etc).

Any other good ideas you can give me? G's favorite thing to do is simply stand at the shelves/toy box and through all her toys out. She's start actually sitting down and playing with her toys soon...right?

Re: BR: Rotating Toys

  • We rotate. It helps.... a little. Wesley still isn't into playing much. His racetrack and ride on toys get the most attention, but he isn't into toys yet. It's more fun to climb the stairs over and over, chase after the cat, do after the pet's water or food....

I hope toys come appealing soon! I have no idea how to sort. I have been pretty random.

  • I did a big toy sort a few weeks ago.

I put away all the little tiny baby toys (like links, soft toys, carseat toys) which we had two big bins of!! That really helped to make things feel less cluttered.

I sorted the rest of Michael's toys into sets and bins. I just dumped all of his little people guys and animals in one and kept his sets out. We also did a bin of cars, a bin of farm stuff, and a bin of misc. stuff. I also have another shelf that we tried to keep some of his other sets together like his sorting toys and anything else that had multiple pieces (like vtech laugh and learn sets). We have a nine cube shelf from target and then some other little shelves by it.

I've also been getting things from sales and putting them away so they are "new"- I sorted them out into little rubbermaid shoebox sized containers and if Michael is getting restless we'll bring one of those out and play with it for a day or so and then put it away again.

Most of our toys are in our downstairs area, but we have a little basket of toys for Michael upstairs that we just try to sort out and rotate through every once in a while to keep things fresh.

We keep our toys behind our sofas in our downstairs family room so it is easy just to pull stuff out and play with that for the day. I think it is easier because then Michael can just focus on a few things instead of having everything to choose from.

I hope this helps....I am really bad at the toys thing too. I need to start a schedule like every Monday we rotate toys or something- but some weeks are better than others! After his birthday we got a ton of toys and I actually put most of them away for months until a day when we needed something new.
