Good morning!

No good morning post yet?

Good morning!

Does anyone else find it weird that my in laws don't want to eat the food in my house? They brought their own cereal even! The first morning, I asked my FIL if he would like another french toast.. "No, I am full. I already had a bowl of cereal." The next morning, he is about to pour another bowl of cereal they had brought.. "I am cooking breakfast." He said, "no, that is okay, I am having cereal." No really.. i have to cook for DH, myself, and DD.. it's okay! So he gives in.. yesterday at the store they bought apples, fat free 1/2 and 1/2, etc.. All things that I already have and need to get rid of before I leave town on Monday. I think they are trying to not to impose.. but I eat all their food when I am at their house. I told themselves to help themselves to anything!

Oh.. and my mother has already been here a day, and is driving me up a wall. She can't stand silence. She is one of those people that feels the need to talk when no one is talking. This morning, within 10 minutes, she has already told me THREE times how tasty the pear she is eating tastes. It's just to fill the air. Do I care, not really? It's more than that.. but it really does grate on me!

Re: Good morning!

  • morning...

this makes me not look forward to my mil coming on sunday....uggh!

  • Julie I swear we have the same IL's!!!

FIL likes a certain kind of butter, he apparently can't go a while 4 days without it so they always go grocery shopping when they get here. I agree that they don't want to impose but I don't think they realize that having 3 types of butter cluttering up the fridge is a PITA (not to mention their own creamer, oatmeal, coffee and even their COFFEE MAKER!). I ask them what they would like us to buy before they get here so they don't have to go shopping and they always say not to go to the trouble.

They are visiting in June and DH said we could get out our old mini fridge to set-up in the dining room, they can put all of their food in there and hopefully they see how ridiculous it looks. I was raised to be a gracious guest and eat what was served/provided. I also try to be a good host and provide food that they like but they insist on going out and buying tons of stuff and then leaving it here when they leave.

Also MIL does not shut up, I swear she when we are in the car she thinks it will blow up if there is 2 seconds of silence. It is like some deranged version of the movie Speed.

    Ok venting over...good morningEmbarrassed

PS I really don't hate my IL's they just get on my nerves the way only family can.

  • Good morning! I'm the picky eater in our families, so I can't say much about y'all are going through except now I feel bad about taking up fridge space. Oh well, c'est la vie! :)
  • good morning! you say they are buying the same stuff you already have? if they weren't, I was going to say that maybe they are on strict diets and want to ensure they are following them closely without asking you to buy all new stuff just to suit their diet.

Ugh. But that's the thing... They bought the same exact thing! Okay, maybe it was a different kind of apple... But it was the same color! And it was the EXACT same kind of creamer. Whatever, I just find it odd and ever so slightly insulting.

Nestle quik and straws. Lol. I don't know why, but that cracks me up. I don't mind having a couple things they like on hand. I always make sure to have caffeine free diet coke and decaf coffee. Of couse, now thinking about it, when I was down there for Christmas I to had buy my own caffeinated coffee. Oh right I forgot,, they went out and bought their own decaf coffee too, even though I have a ton of coffee I bought for them. I don't drink that decaf stuff!

OK, I will admit, I'm a picky PITA eater sometimes. But if you have 1/2+1/2... then we're good.

My FILs kitchen used to drive me insane - he'd have everything, but it was almost always "fake". Margerine, spenda-based sweeteners, fate-free everything. I do NOT eat anything not "real". I also would always cook when we'd stay over for the weekend, so I'd go buy the things we'd eat. For ex: I eat/cook with butter, so I'd buy some farking butter so I could cook with it. It would stay in that fridge until it molded. The man would not touch it! I did finally figure out his usual International Delights creamer wasn't bad at all (fake food wise) so I did start using that.

I'm assuming all of the lite, diet, margerine type foods were an effort to control the caloric intake, but its NMS. At all.

But Jules - the apples and creamer "re-purchasing" is just weird. If you have what I normally use and you've told me to consume it as a houseguest, youbetcherass I will do so!

    Oh, and Morning! Wink

  • good morning ladies!

i will say, for all my MIL complaints...she doesn't have to come stay with us for any reason, so thankfully i don't have to deal with any crazy food stuff!

  • Morning!  All of you are starting to make me happy that my ILs live here.  There is absolutely NO WAY I would survive if they came to visit for more than few hours.  The thought of them staying at my house makes me want to poke my eyeballs out.  Bless you all for putting up with ILs who must stay for several days.

  • Morning!

Believe me, I feel you on the IL thing! I do understand why my IL's bring so much food - things really do taste differently in different countries. But, saltines? Even after MIL says she likes the ones here better, they still bring a crap ton of SALTINES!  And then leave them all here. Because we eat so many of them (not).

My MIL is also the world biggest talker. She just cannot stand to be silent for more than 30 seconds. And don't get me started on her 5 squirts of old lady perfume. Like Noelle said, I like my IL's, but they do irritate like only family can.

  • Good morning. Busy busy!

My FIL is also a non-stop talker. Half the things he says don't make any sense though. He constantly repeats himself and thinks he's hilarious. I thought I was going to lose it when we all shared a cab and he felt the need to imitate blinker sounds every time the driver turned on the blinker. "blinka blinka blinka" argh!

The last time my parents came to visit, they brought a bunch of cereal too. My mom said that my dad and brother like to have a bowl of cereal at night (different kinds, of course). It was for one night! Then they wound up not even touching them and snacked on the birthday cake I made for my brother - just like I knew they would.
