This really pissed me off
On the way home yesterday I heard on 950 News radio that they discovered Bridge Cards (food stamps in Michigan) were being used on vacations (Florida, Nevada, Hawaii and on CRUISE SHIPS!!!). Article HERE.
I would love to see another program developed for Welfare Fraud Investigation at the state level. Let's employ out of work Social Workers and Police/Public Safety Officers and let them investigate and follow people that are suspected of abusing and scamming the system. I guarantee you'll cut your food stamps expenses in half!

I think the governor has already started on this. Well, i know he has started with college kids scamming and i get the impression he will move on from there.
it's ridiculous and makes me want to punch people in the face.
The welfare system is so abused that it pi$$es me off on a regular basis. I can barely comment because it angers me so much.

it's just like everything else - put in place for a good reason and abused to the point where it makes me sick to my stomach. it needs to be stopped.
okay, now i can't stop...
what really makes me mad is the comment at the end about some saying we have bigger fish to fry. this state is in economic shambles....don't you think taking government money meant for food when you don't really need it and using it for vacation could be at least part of the problem?!
what would be a "bigger fish" then getting our economic situation turned around.

I was at 7-11 and a lady bought 4 slurpees and a lunchables with her card. Really? That's considered nutritional, and can be accepted? I asked the cashier about it when she left and he said that there are a lot of people that buy candy bars and pop with their cards.
I say there should be investigations and piss tests to those on welfare. I had to piss in a cup to get my job to pay for this stupid system, so they can piss in a cup to receive the aid. The system should be for those that REALLY need the help.
H was just telling me last night that a lady he used to work with just had her 13th baby. She told my H a long time ago that she liked having babies for the tax deduction. She got fired from the job where they worked together because they found out she had been arrested and charged with domestic violence for beating up her adult brother. She was a winner.
I saw that today too and it made my blood boil. I'm not paying taxes so you can take a trip somewhere or buy junk food! It's there to put healthy food on the table for your family!
I agree with you Mary - I think drug tests need to be given to anyone on welfare AND collecting unemployment. You fail - your money gets taken away.
13?! Holy crap. Don't they cap the tax deduction with children at 10? I could be wrong but I thought it was 10.
i was at sam's club and the lady in front of me was using her card. it wasn't enough to cover the bill so she pulled a giant wad of cash out of her pocket to cover the rest. she was also juggling two conversations between her iphone and one of those government issued phones. i almost blew my lid.
did you look into this for personal reasons? haha

No no no...you won't get a hospital bill! Free health care for ecomonically disadvantaged moms and babies right? (At least that's how it was in CA) And then there's free formula and free vaccines and free doctor visits....

I see this all the time (considering where I work). Just yesterday I had a woman lying to me over the phone about her marital status - married, but separated (separated spouse income doesn't count), but I could hear the husband in the background and when I asked for his SSN she actually asked him and tried to cover it by saying she was asking someone else - she called him by name! She also owns a franchise of a popular convenience store where you buy frozen slush drinks, and doesn't pay herself a salary - and therefore doesn't show any income and doesn't pay any taxes. She told me I was worthless and stupid (ME? the girl with the MA and a good paying job??) and that I was personally preventing her from getting the federal money she DESERVES. Yeah.
It is obnoxious.

I have come acrosss this a TON!!! I also have heard of women dropping work hours so they can get medicaid. I stopped going to a stylist because she admitted to this.
My sister had a friend complain (yes COMPLAIN) because she went to get aid while her SO (see not married) was out of work and instead they gave her a clothing allowance and found her a great job at a Dr's office. She effing complained!!!! She simply wanted the aid for a few months not a job.
Please note this is not a close friend of my sister, it is someone she was close with in high school that will call her on ocassion to chat.
people have no ethics/values anymore...and you see the teens getting whatever they want, they'll be just as bad, they won't want to work
a guy at church was looking for workers at his business & had a guy say "can you pay me under the table, so i can keep my unemployment benefits?"....he didn't get the job....
