I'm getting laid off. :(

Effective ~60 days from now (due to the volume of ppl cut, they had to give notice)

So, anyone know of any research jobs? Qualitative or quantitative.

DS just started daycare Monday and I found out yesterday. Not quite the back to work adjustment I was hoping for!

  • Ouch! Wish I had some leads for you, but I'm looking in the same area and haven't found much!
  • Oh, I am so sorry to hear- that is terrible! I can imagine this is really tough, but at least they gave you some decent notice and I will keep my fingers crossed that you are able to find something ASAP. Hugs!

  • OMG! What sucky timing! At least you got 60 days to work everything out. I was once given 24 hours.

Given that I'm in public education, I'm no help at all with the job front. Things are equally scary here.

  • I work for the state so I am no help!

So sorry about your situation. I hope it turns out to be better though...sometimes that happens!

  • I'll keep my ears open too- i tend to hear about research jobs in the area.  Why did I think you were in Augusta :c)

  • Ugh, that sucks! :( Sending T&Ps that you find something very soon. 60 days is a decent time frame, hopefully something better comes up within that time!!

I'm glad Kristy posted the USM job; I was going to recommend that you check out higher ed institutions near you -- I usually see research jobs at colleges.  (Too bad you're not down here; Harvard is always hiring researchers!)

I was once laid off at 2 pm, effective at close of business.  Spent the rest of the day transferring projects over to my co-workers and cleaning out my desk, then left a half hour early to go to a bar and drink with all my other laid-off co-workers.

My shift ended at 4:00 - I was called into the office at 3:59 (on Friday) and told that I shouldn't come in again, they were eliminating my position. I just had to abandon all my work where it stood.

That stinks Jaylea. I don't really know how to find leads in your field, but I hope that 60 days will be enough to find something promising. Here's to new opportunities.

That's awful! I have no leads... another place to potentially search is idealist.org (I haven't checked there in 5 years but I think it's still around. Might not be the type of thing you are looking for though.
  • ((hugs)) - what a crappy economy huh??  I'm in the same boat, kind of.  I got laid off a few weeks back and even in healthcare I'm having a hard time.  Hope you do better than I am!
