My friend/coworker has two boys older than ours, and she's given me a number of hand-me-down items over the years. She's also been keeping a stash of clothes for her sister, who's been TTC for awhile.
Her sister became pregnant (yay!). My friend's husband got a job offer in another state (boo). Because they're packing up their belongings, my friend offered me the clothing with the condition I'd give them to her sister if she had a baby boy when we were done with it. Everybody wins, right? Sadly, her sister lost the baby last week.
It's like 8 huge bags of clothes, all in really good shape, but much of it isn't my kids' styles (Sesame Street characters, colors I wouldn't choose, etc.). There's still a lot we can use, but I feel kind of bad knowing it's intended for someone else. I can't guarantee we can keep it stain/hole/fade free.
While I'm extremely grateful for my friend's generosity, I don't know what to do with this stuff. It's been my goal to get rid of baby stuff as we outgrow it, and I'm not sure what to think about keeping this stuff for an undetermined length of time. Her sister's family lives in a one bedroom apt. downtown Chicago, so storing all this stuff isn't really an option.
Any suggestions how to handle this? Thanks!
Re: WWYD - hand-me-down clothes (long)
I agree. Because another thought is if her sister gets pregnant again, there is no guarantee that they will have a boy. So, you may be holding on to those clothes for a really long time.
This is what I was thinking too. We are the last of DH friends to have LO's and we have gotten a lot of hand me downs. After I go through them, I have donated to the Ruth Harbor House.
