Who else is an only child?
I didn't know MrsMitch was until she commented in my post.
So, which other Nesties are only children? We can be the "siblings" we never had together. Any cool thoughts/dislikes about it?
I met a gal at church that is an only child & born on the same day as me, I thought that was unique.
My other unique thing: my cousin & I are double cousins (his dad & my dad are brothers & my mom & his mom are sisters). Plus we're both only children, so we grew up like brother & sister, since our relatives are all the same.....weird I know...

I'm an only child.
I have three older step brothers (like 10+ years older), but was always the only child living at home.
ETA: I hated it. I was really lonely.
That is really unique. I don't have anything like that.
I really disliked it. I felt like I grew up quicker and had more responsibilty. I think as I get older it gets worse. I always knew I wanted to make sure Brendan had a sibling. My mom & I are best friends, so that's nice, but it's also hard because all her eggs are in one basket. Her life revolves around me and now Brendan. My Dad feels the same, but not as much as my Mom. It's difficult at times.
I also always remember asking my parents if I had siblings somewhere out there. That must have annoyed them so much!!!

I am an only child. Parents divorced when I was 5/6 and I moved to MI w/ my mom from FL. I hated being an only child when I was younger - it especially sucked when we had snow days and I had no one to play with. According to my mom I had an invisible friend around 8 yrs old....pretty sad, huh?!
My mom had a heart attack about 10 years ago and I was the only one who had to take care of her. I can foresee the future being difficult.
I'm an only child. I have three step-brothers and a step-sister but I never lived with them.
I didn't mind being an only child. But I do remember playing by myself a LOT. But I don't think it bothered me at the time - probably because I didn't know any different.
My experience was good enough that I wouldn't mind at all if we have an only child. But DH really wants two. I also have a friend who is concerned about her daughter being their only child and I think it's fine. I was fine and while I do feel that I probably missed out on some things, I know I did other things because I didn't have siblings.
I don't feel that I grew up any faster but I am concerned about the responsibility of taking care of my parents by myself. That's scary!
I have friends who were only children who totally LOVED it. My best friend was an only child, and she says she could never imagine herself having more than one because she had so much fun as a kid.
I hated being an only child because I felt like I couldn't be a kid. But that was because my mom was a busy professional, and didn't have time for kid stuff. I know that you guys will be great parents and let your kid do all sorts of fun kid stuff!
don't think too much about it. the grass is always greener on the other side. i have a sister but she has make my life very difficult. I often wished i was an only child.
For sure. It helps that A will retire when phantom child is 10-11 years old (he retires in 12 years) and even when he's working, it's only 3 24hr shifts/week.

Definitley don't feel this way. Whoever said it is right "the grass is greener on the other side". I know my parents were not in a financial position to have more kids and I fully understand their reasons. I don't blame them for anything. I have a few friends that are only children and they said they really enjoyed it (male & female).
Thanks! I felt the same way about my brother. He was so mean when we were growing up (especially once he got bigger than me). We're close now, but we're also in our 30's (well, he's 29).

They do! DH swears that had no problem being an only child (these days not so much, but that is only because his parents have come to depend on him a little too much and he worries about them financially).
He tells me that he would take his childhood over my crazy loud siblings any day.
I'm an only child too. My parents adopted me when I was a baby, they divorced when I was about 1. My dad has remarried several times, so I have step siblings, but I never see them anymore and never lived with them.
I always knew I'd have at least 2 kids. I was happy most of the time b/c I love having privacy, but there were days when my friends were on vacation and I had no one to play with and got lonely.
Kristine - if you want to get the kids together for a playdate, just send me a message on fb, I bet they'll love each other!
i believe firewife said if she is able to have a child it will be only one so i find this post insensitive.
I meant nothing to firewife about this. I know what she is going through. I just meant for me, I would rather not have this. Because right now, if something happens my DS with have no aunts, uncles, cousins when/if his grandparents and DH and I die will have no one.
