Okay ladies.
So all of the great posts from people getting their dream jobs has got me thinking about my own dream job again.
The last time I contacted them was on October 4th (by email, to check on the status of their decision), and I rec'd an email from them on Oct. 6th thanking me for my continued enthusiasm, telling me they were in the process of making a decision, and that they would be getting in touch with me and the other candidates soon.
The org continually updates it's job listings, and the last update was on Oct. 28th. As of last Tuesday, the position was still listed as "open."
FI thinks I should/call email them today to (a) reiterate my interest in the position, (b) ask if there's anything I can do to help them make their decision, and (c) reiterate my interest in the org in general, and ask if I should apply for any other positions.
Thoughts?

Re: NER: Job question
my read shelf:
Contact them. I think every two weeks is fine. Even once a week can be fine, depending on the circumstances.
Something else: Keep your eyes open - or go looking for - articles that might interest your contact. You can pass it along, giving you another reason to put your name in front of them.
Definitely contact them. At least every two weeks. All of your DH's ideas are good. Also good is asking when they'll be making a decision. And asking point-blank if you are still in the running. I assume you are, but if you're not it would be better to know so that you can focus on other things.
Nonprofits move at a snail's pace, as I'm sure you know. I'd call today, if you can -- the rest of the week will be All Election, All the Time.
Good luck!
Okay, ladies.
Wish me luck. I'm going to go ahead and call my contact.
::reaches shakily towards phone::
Can you tell I really want this job? ::sigh::
Just talked to my contact.
They've started a hiring freeze. Apparently letters are going out this week to let us all know that they're not filling any attorney positions right now. ::sigh:: I guess this is better than an all out rejection...but not by much.
I'm really sorry the "dream job" isn't working out as you had hoped. I think you should send a note to the hiring committee saying that you understand that there is a hiring freeze and express your interest in the job/org and indicate that you would appreciate being kept on file in the event that the freeze is lifted.
Hugs to you.
Everything will work out.
Bummer. But it's better to know! And better, you know it's not personal or a rejection of you, but rather, the larger state of the economy at play.
Hang in there -- you still have a chance at the dream job when the freeze lifts! In the meantime, look for other similar stuff. I imagine there is a lot of uncertainty keeping people from making decision that should rachet back post-election. You'll find the right thing!
Thanks for the encouragement, all.
I am REALLY hoping that the election is enough to life the economy a little. I know it's going to take awhile to get the country solidly back on it's feet, but I'm hoping that at least some chunk of the problems are related to uncertainty about the election.
For now, I'm applying where I can, and will be contacting orgs to volunteer with once we get back from the wedding this weekend.
Once I'm admitted, I'll probably look into some crappy doc review job just to have SOME income, but until that happens, I'm kind of stuck.
Does this mean you passed???!!!!!
Poo.
Slip of the tongue. No, not yet. No results have been released.
::fingers crossed:: though
Oh man...I thought you meant you were just waiting for the swearing in ceremony. How much longer do you have? I have until the 21st.
No idea.
NY generally releases sometime in mid-November, though they didn't release until Christmas Eve one year (happy christmas! ::eyeroll::). I know NJ just released today, though, and NY is generally one or two weeks behind, so I should know sometime this month.
After that, though, I still have go through a character and fitness check (NY does that AFTER you take the bar instead of before), and THEN I can be sworn in. That's generally first come, first serve, though, so I probably won't be sworn in until after the new year. ::sigh::
My hubz took it in '06. They announced on November 14.
I hope yours is soon!
I'm sorry to hear about your dream job, Heather, and hope you find something good soon!
