Anyone in the Rockville/Kensington/Garrett Park Area Hear That House Explode This Morning?

We had the windows open last night, and even though we are a little less than a mile from the house that exploded, the noise totally woke me up at 3am and the house shook too.

H didn't hear a thing, and I thought maybe I'd dreamed it until I heard the story on NPR this morning.

Re: Anyone in the Rockville/Kensington/Garrett Park Area Hear That House Explode This Morning?

  • I didn't hear it (I'm pretty far from that area) but I saw it on the news this morning. Crazy. I'm wondering what happened.
    Vacation
  • I couldn't believe the story. We used to live right near that neighborhood. I hope the people that lived there recover. I'm glad they made it out alive.

  • Holy crap!

We're kind far from there too...

Didn't another house just explode the other day?  I can't remember where - but I saw it on the news...

    Yes, it was in Woodbridge

  • Wow - that's insane! Meth lab comes to mind, although the article did say they were trying to install a gas stove.

  • Holy cow! I woke up around 3 am, but I assumed it was because the baby made a noise. Maybe it was the house explosion. I live in Wheaton, but as the crow flies, it's not too far away.

    * *

**Rockville - - Just before 3 a.m. today, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue
was called to the 11200 block of Ashley Drive in Rockville for a report of a
house explosion. Units arrived on the scene and found a single family
rancher style home that was completely destroyed. Two adult occupants, one
male and one female, were located at the rear of the residence under debris
and were treated and transported to a local burn center. The adult male
remains in serious condition and the female remains in serious condition
    with life threatening injuries.

Montgomery County Fire and Explosive Investigators report the explosion was
caused by an improperly installed natural gas dryer. The explosion caused an
estimated $750,000 damage to the structure and two adjacent homes. Debris
from the home was distributed in a wide area surrounding the home.

Seventy-five fire and rescue personnel were on the scene for approximately 1
? hours. Investigators remained on the scene for an additional eight hours.
Washington Gas and Pepco representatives were on the scene to assist with
    the incident and investigation.
Gas appliances should be installed by a licensed professional.

  • Here's the latest from Fox news.

Looks like the tenants were trying to replace a gas dryer with an electric one and left the gas line open.
