Another Mother's Day question

So SIL called last night to invite us to her house on Sun for lunch to honor "the moms" - she then listed me, her sister, her mom, and our husbands' mom.

So I'm thinking I should get her a gift - she is due June 3rd...

What should I get her???? She was saying how it is our "first mother's day" but I don't really feel like it is, I feel like next year will be our first mother's day, when the babies are actually here...

Thoughts?

Re: Another Mother's Day question

  • I can't help.

I've never bought a mother's day gift. in my life.

I do agree your first mother's day is next year though.

  • hm.  I'm with you, I don't consider this my first mother's day just because I'm pregnant.  Bring flowers or something that can be seen as a gift, but not necessarily a mother's day gift Smile

  • I'd say it is next year as well.

You could get her a picture frame with the name of the baby though or something similar.

Everyone at work is saying this is my first Mother's day so I was kind of excited and I'm pretty sure my family doesn't think that... so I'm trying to not get upset (it's hard when everyone says that to you though!).

Maybe a small gift-- a book or little thing to pamper herself?

  • I agree with all previous posters.
  • I agree. Your 1st mother's day will be next year. How about a plant? That way she can see the plant grow, just like her child. I know I am symbolic like that.

They have some very nice and affordable ones at Trader Joe's, if there is one near you.

That is a great idea! we always get MIL a hanging potted plant for her porch in their RI house. I will get something for SIL to plant too...thanks!!

  • Of course. We get MIL every year for Mother's Day. She really likes them b/c she can plant them in her garden and show them off. I think she still has an ivy plant we gave her 5 yrs ago.

  • Does she like to read?  I'd get her the book "The Girlfriends Guide to the First Year" or the "Toddlers" one.  They are quick reads, funny, and do provide some good advice.
