  • Where were you? I was a Sophmore in HS in Physics class.

How old were you? 16 almost 17

How did you hear the news of the attack? On the tv. Our principal came over the loudspeaker and told us to turn on the tv.

Anything else you'd like to share? I will always remember what were doing right before the tv came on. We were working in groups and had the radio on. On the radio they had mentioned that there was a report of a car bomb going off in NY. I don't know if thats what people had originally thought had happened at the towers before seeing the second plane. But that had always stuck with me.

Where were you? I was watching TV in the business graduate lounge at OU - saw the first plane strike and was like - whoa - what just happened?

    How old were you?  22

How did you hear the news of the attack?  I saw it but for an hour or two truly thought it was an error and not a terrorist attack.

Anything else you'd like to share?  In my next class (consolidations), we spent the entire one and a half hour period talking about it.  I distinctively remember a classmate, who was from Pakistan saying "Well, I am not surprised this hasn't happened before. The security in the US airports is horrible."  I just remember the shock on everyone's faces.  I, of course, had something unpleasant to say right back. He didn't come to class the rest of the semester. Douchebag.

  • Where were you? At home getting ready for a class

    How old were you? 14

How did you hear the news of the attack? My mom had the TV on in her room. I walked in to ask her something and saw the twin towers. Only one plane had hit so far.

Anything else you'd like to share? We thought it was just a random weird accident, then the 2nd plane hit and it became much scarier.

  • Where were you? I was in second hour - Pre-AP English - when I found out.

    How old were you? 15.

How did you hear the news of the attack? Rumblings were floating the hallways of my high school when I got out of 1st hour. When I got to second hour, my teacher had the lights off, TV on and was crying. First image I saw was a plane hitting one of the Twin Towers, and I literally dropped my books on my desk and fell into my chair.

Anything else you'd like to share? I just remember the chaos on the news - they weren't sure what was going on, why this was happening...it was probably one of the scariest moments of my life. Then I called my mom, and she said Fort Sill was on lockdown and she didn't know when my dad would be coming home or if he'd be sent somewhere...he didn't come home until after 9:00 that night, and I gave him the biggest hug ever when he finally walked through the door. I had never been that on edge before in my life...never want to be again.

  • Where were you? At home asleep

    How old were you? 21

How did you hear the news of the attack? Mydad called to wake me up and tell me to go put gas in the cars ASAP.

Anything else you'd like to share? I was in an MSW program and my classes were canceled for a week because so many of our professors went to NYC to serve as emergency therapists.

  • Where were you? I was at school. I'm pretty sure I was in 7th grade.

    How old were you? 13

How did you hear the news of the attack? I was in Social Studies class. My teacher had the news on all hour. He explained to us what happened.

Anything else you'd like to share? I just remember being confused and scared. It was hard to believe what had happened.

  • Where were you? When the attacks happened, I was eating breakfast, about to head out to my 9am conducting class at UCO. I immediately called my father, who was also watching the Today Show, and we both saw the second plane hit the second tower on tv together. After that, I went to class, but my conducting teacher took us to the student center to watch the tv coverage. Classes were canceled soon after that. Then I spent the rest of the day at H's house (then boyfriend) watching coverage in silence.

How old were you? Almost 21.

How did you hear the news of the attack? I was watching tv when it happened, so I heard of it as soon as it happened.

Anything else you'd like to share? This has been the only time I have ever seen H silent like he was.

  • Where were you?  On my way to class

    How old were you?  18

How did you hear the news of the attack? The radio

Anything else you'd like to share? I got to school and they had closed campus.  My aunt and I went to lunch at Chili's, then went to QT for gas, the lines were so long.

  • Where were you? I was on the bus to high school for the first plane. We could hear it on the radio. When I got to school I found DH, then BF for a few months, and we went into my Spanish class where my teacher had the TV on...We watched the second plane fly in together.

How old were you? I had just turned 16 and D was 15.

How did you hear the news of the attack? First on the school bus radio then on the TV in class. Most classes that day were devoted to watching the news. I remember hearing about Tinker AFB being on total lockdown and it worried me because my grandparents lived in MWC close to bease and there were rumors of a plane heading that way.

Anything else you'd like to share? That was the day D decided to join the Navy. He had be tossing the idea around but didn't know if he want to do Navy or Marines. As we watched the news coverage that day at lunch he looked at me and asked me if I would wait for him while he served our country. It was one of my proudest moments of him to date.

  • Where were you? I was at school.

How old were you? Um... 16?

How did you hear the news of the attack? I walked into my AP Biology class and there wasn't anyone there. I sat my books on my desk and that's when I saw everyone in the connecting classroom watching the TV. I wasn't sure what it was, at first, and when I finally figured it out, I was speechless. I was also kind of scared, because I automatically assumed it was happening all over the country.

Anything else you'd like to share? My best friend's mom was at the WTC that day. Or she was supposed to be, or something. I just remember how distraught she was when she couldn't get through to her. It broke my heart. Turns out, she hadn't made it to the WTC when it happend, so she was fine. But, still. It was an awful feeling.

  • Where were you? 1st period math class in high school/ 2nd period chemistry class

    How old were you? 16

How did you hear the news of the attack? Towards the end of class, our teacher was called out in the hall to have a discussion with the other teachers. That's when I knew something serious was going on, but I didn't know what it was until we switched classes and turned on the tvs. We spent much of the day watching.

  • Where were you?  In Stillwater, my sophomore year of college.  I was still in our apartment when I heard the news. How old were you?  19How did you hear the news of the attack?  One of my roommates came and woke me up.  We watched the news while we got ready for class, then went to campus.  We spent most of the day in the Union watching the news.Anything else you'd like to share?  A lot of the foreign students at OSU were afraid to go to class (I assume anyway, a lot of them quit coming).  I remember being worried about my step-dad and about how people would treat him.  He's from Pakistan (I know, *gasp*) and my mom was so worried about him....unfortunately, people tend to judge a person very quickly by their appearance, especially during a time like that.

Anything else you'd like to share?  Thinking about this day still makes me sad and tear up.  I just can't imagine being there.
