Do you assign yourself a "cleaning day"?
I consider myself a pretty clean person, but when I'm working full-time I find that I don't even realize things like dust, dirty floors, etc. We're moving to a new place this month, and my resolution is to pick one day a week that I clean the entire place. Do you have a day that you clean on, or do you just clean as you see things getting dirty? How do you keep yourself on track?
Re: Do you assign yourself a "cleaning day"?
I made a list with check off boxes and we work on getting them done throughout the week. Some days I check off lots of boxes, and some days I can only get a couple done. Breaking the job up into small tasks helps. Sometimes I think "I can have that done in 5 minutes and have one box checked!" (Like sweep off the deck or remove all the cobwebs".
I found "flylady.net" really helpful.
I do not assign a cleaning day, but I do set a timer to see how much I can get done in twenty minutes (ten minutes, if I'm feeling lazy).
Some places in the house are sacred spaces, which always stay clutter free for the most part, for sanity's sake. The bedroom stays clean even if I have to stuff all of my laundry that hasn't been folded into my closet.
My husband and I recently have been making a point of keeping the kitchen sink free of dishes. We have been married for about four months and have had the sink clean three days in a row for the first time. It is so much less stressful to go to bed with an empty sink.
Our home office is our "catch all" room. It's a mess most of the time, but we're working on it.
I do major cleaning, like bathrooms, organizing closets, wiping out the fridge, etc on weekends. Throughout the week I do things to keep the house up, though, like sweeping/swiffering floors, cleaning up after the cats, wiping down sinks, tables and counters, plus a load of laundry mid-week. And of course dishes (and we hand wash!).

I clean every Wednesday and Saturday
Pick up daily.
I've tried both ways: one big "cleaning day" and the "one room a day" method. Neither one worked for me (mostly because I'm lazy).
What's been working so far is I keep the entire house 100% clutter free all week, that's my only goal M-F. Always cleaning up after myself, no dishes in the sink, no stuff lying around, sweep up after small messes, etc. Then I do all the "real" cleaning over the weekend (i.e. vacuum, dust, etc). I found that it the "real" cleaning is very quick and easy when the house is clutter free. Kwim?
