WHOOT! Watch Hill question, again

So this whole Watch Hill thing just randomly came up by DH yesterday. He mentioned how the two of us should go to Watch Hill for a night or two, just the two of us. That's when I quickly came on here to ask where. Turns out he had just read something about the Ocean House not too long ago, I guess they renovated? Anyway, he surprised me by booking a room for next Friday night! WOOOHOO!! So, my question is this. We'll get to Watch Hill around 12ish on friday, but can't check in till 4. What/where should we go before we can check in? I don't know the area that well, have only been to Westerly once.

Thanks! Happy Mother's Day to me! :)

Re: WHOOT! Watch Hill question, again

  • You can walk along the strip by the Ocean. There are lots of nice shops.  The Olympia Tea room is a nice place to have lunch.  Also Charlestown isn't too far of a drive down on Route 1, and there is the Fantastic Umbrella Factory there, along with Ninigret State Park, and Burlingame State Park if if its a nice day.  Also in Downtown Westerly, you can walk along the river and check out the shops heading into Pawcatuck CT.
  • That is friggen' awesome!  I've never been to Watch Hill but I really want to head there this summer.  I have heard that the renovation is amazing.  So happy for you!

I love Cheeky's idea of a vineyard before hand!

  • OMG so jealous.  I grew up exactly 6 minutes from watch hill (i timed it when i was a teenager lol).  So so pretty.

The ocean house has recently been renovated and is AMAZING.  If you can't check in until four, definitely walk around the shops in Watch HIll.   Cute shops...you can grab a coffee, ice cream or lunch and take a walk down the beach. And did you know that the carousel is the oldest carousel in the US?!?  true story.

And although, there are things around watch hill.....downtown westerly, wineries, downtown mystic isnt too far either.  If I were u I would just hang out at the hotel the entire time.....i'm sure you can find something to keep you busy ;)

  • I'm so excited I could puke! HA! I think we'll stop at one of the wineries on our way up :) Then get to the hotel and leave our stuff w/ the concierge and walk around the hotel. It looks so gorgeous! Thanks for the suggestions!! I'm a lucky girl :)
  • UMMMM HELLO....I live like literally 3 miles from there...

So...you could absolutely walk downtown Watch Hill or downtown Westerly...downtown Westerly is cute...

I agree to the wineries too...they are nice.

And yes...the Ocean House is beautiful...they did a great job renovating. It looks almost exactly the same as it did before they tore it down...it is amazing!!

    AWESOME....so happy for you!

  • That's what we're going to do, Corry, Jonathan Edwards on the way to the hotel!! ahhh...can it be next thursday night, NOW! :)
