Re: Jessica (wishesshecouldcook)

  • It's coming.  We are still in the 3 steps forward 2 steps back phases. I just have to keep reminding myself we are still 1 step ahead ;)

DH and FIL had a several guys with machines up this past weekend to clear more land and  put in the driveway (they did 10,000 worth of work for 1,500)! It's becoming more real! (our 3 steps ahead for the week)

We met with the bank on Monday afternoon and that was our 2 steps back.  Basically because DH works for his dad we will have to put 30% down which we will think we will have with the value of the land so that's okay.  They also came back and said that basically we will have to ask to borrow more money or we will have to have a HUGE amount of money in reserve through the entire process.  This is kind of confusing.  Basically we are building a house worth a lot more money than what we are paying (because of favors and DH working for free etc). The bank's policy says that if their assessment of the plans/land is more than 5% of what we are borrowing we have to have over that amount in reserve.  If we don't finish the project we will have to pay the bank.  I guess this is to cover their butts and we won't leave them high and dry.

Thank you for asking! I was going to update but a driveway doesn't seem so exciting to a lot of other people.

    How are you feeling?
