Dh thinks we are going to get a tv within the next year, but I am saving to get him one for his birthday this July. We have the old ones that are like, a foot deep lol. Takes up SO much room!! anyway, I've been told mounting it over the fireplace would be expensive, it isn't an exterior wall. The only other place it could go is on a stand, the tv would partially block the sliding glass window and another window. We wont be staying in this condo forever, so maybe we should just do a stand?
Multiple IVFs=TWINS! Due FEB 5, 2012!!

Re: to mount tv or not...
What's your definition of expensive? We did the wall mount and the only cost was the mount. They're not cheap, but it's not terrifically expensive. Well, I guess you need to have the tools too, but I assume that you have them?
That said, I think putting it over the fireplace might be a bit high. But then blocking windows isn't ideal either...
We bought a wall mount when we bought our TV. It was like $100, but it comes with us wherever we move.
If you do choose to mount the TV, I would put a sheet of wax paper between the mount and the wall ... in our first place, we didn't do that and the heat from the TV caused the mount to stick to the wall and we ripped a piece of the drywall out.
In our last house, DH also cut holes in the drywall so that the cords could run behind the wall, instead of being visible. We paid a drywall guy $100 when we moved to patch it up. Of course, if you don't mind cords then you don't have to do that. Just stick with the wax paper and you'll be fine.
What? Who quoted you that? They are there for people with too much money.
You can do it yourself ... you just need a mount. If you're handy, you can hide the wires yourself. If you're not handy, you can even buy covers for the wires so you don't have to look at them.
(Really ... the millions of people with mounted TVs out there are not keeping some flat-screen-mounting industry alive. They are doing it themselves.)
ETA that if you really wanted a super clean look that's permanent, I could see where the $$ estimate came in. You can run wiring to a special outlet behind the TV. But you don't have to.
Bwahaha! That didn't even occur to me.
If you mount it, you can angle it down. Just make sure your couch is far enough away from it so you're not straining your neck. We're considering doing this (after our new couch comes and after we buy a TV). Sounds like we're in the same boat as you with the fireplace and the windows, etc.
