and broke to say the era of me calling my brother and asking him to dog/house sit for us is over.
When we went to Deep Creek for the weekend he was going to do it but then he got vaccinated for Small Pox and we decided to put her in the kennel for her own safety LOL.
I called him 2 weeks ago and asked if he'd be able to watch her this coming Friday- Sunday so we could go to the beach for our Anniv. He said he'd be working all weekend but it wasnt a big deal. So I called him tonight to ask if he'd be able to stay tomorrow night instead of Friday. He says "I dont think I can watch her at all. Ever since this OSBL ordeal they have been making us do mandatory over time. I've been working 16 4am-10pm". UH WHEN WAS HE GOING TO TELL ME THIS?!?!
I almost called the kennel today anyhow but I wasn't planning on that added expense. My mom volunteered to come over to my house and let her out twice a day and then my brother could just be there at night with her. That's a major inconvenience to her and I feel guilty leaving Raven like that. So I called my kennel at 8pm luckily got a hold of someone, made up some sob story and begged them to take her for the weekend. I knew this day would come.
So much for a case of beer, food and $40 to have someone watch my furbaby!! Plus I hate putting her in a kennel.
Re: It makes me and Raven sad...
this is a good idea....if you have a normal dog - LOL. We'd love to do this, but pearl, as sweet as she is, being a pit we have an extra-worry about if anything would happen.
Good luck, hopefully you can not worry too much about Raven and enjoy your wkend getaway with hubby. Happy Anniversary!

My Bio
I tried this and didn't like it after the 2nd time. When I got home the second time, I found out that the woman I hired had her "assistant" come and let the dogs out and stuff. I couldn't pin point it, but my house seemed "off" and I didn't like that feeling. Nothing went missing or anything but I just didn't feel comfortable doing it.
We actually really like the "kennel" we use when we have to. Its this old Irish lady who lives about 10 mins from her house. She turned her 4 car garage and back yard into a kennel. She lives on site. The kennel is a "social" kennel where the dogs spend much of their day outside in her back yard with a group of other compatible dogs weather permitting. Raven is exhausted when we pick her up!! We originally heard about her through one of H's friends that used her. Then when I changed hospitals all my new coworkers use her. She is a tough little thing!! She doesn't take any crap from the dogs and they know it!! She likes 48hr notice if you a going to be dropping off during her none peak times. During peak kennel season She says we should reserve ASAP. Her pricing was unbelievably cheap but she had a sign posted the last time that her rate are going to go up. Even still it should be cheaper then a conventional kennel.
In college I was a pet sitter. I loved that hob!! It got me out of my parents house and put some sweet money in my pocket. H is super funny about having strangers in our house so unless we know the person its not going to happen.
