maternity shirts....

This morning I grabbed an empire waisted shirt out of my closet and got dressed for work. I had some extra time today so I didn't just slap on some scrubs.  I drive to my first stop and see some 40 year old guy.  I'm BS'ing with him, joking around about the "new experience" he's going to have with his new knee, and he starts talking about my "new experience".  I figured he was doped up on pain meds so I ignored him.  Then he asks me when I was due!  i didn't have the heart to correct him, so I  mumbled "a couple of months" and flew out of the room.*  Next, I headed up to the ICU to see some confused old lady, and while I was talking to her and trying to center her back on reality, she says "you'll be a great mom to that little one".  Now I was feeling super confused (and fat!).  I realized in my car that I was wearing an old maternity shirt....oops!

* didn't correct him because its the WORST feeling putting your foot in your mouth. I'm sure we've all been there thinking someone is pregnant when they aren't.  And this poor guy was trying to be sweet.  I had to warn my bosses though so the rumor mill doesn't get going!!

Re: maternity shirts....

  • Oh no! People are rude. Unless that shirt said baby with a big arrow pointing down toward your bizsnatch or something? LOL
  • Wow!!  I never say ANYTHING to a woman even if I suspect a pregnancy.  It's just rude.  No one would say anything to me until I hit about 30 weeks and it was obvious.  I would have told them all to fudge off!  I still consider telling strangers that I'm not pregnant when they ask but those are my hormones speaking ;)

  • What a couple of jerks! I can't believe you got it twice in one day. Maternity shirt or not, I'd never ask someone when they are due unless it was a completely obvious and large baby bump under there.

I wouldn't have corrected them, either, though. Because I'm a wuss. lol.
