Any green thumbs out there?
I want to do a planter for our entry-way, preferably something with color and some height to it. When I was looking at the plant options the other day, I realized I wasn't familiar with a lot of the species that are good for a warmer climate. Anyone have a green thumb and some suggestions?

Re: Any green thumbs out there?
I'm by no means a green thumb, even though I've spent my entire adult life in a flower shop. My H has to take care of our plants, because I kill them. But I do have a slight idea of what works well in our climate (although honestly, I'm not as knowledgable of plants as I should be).
My very favorite plants for planters are bromilliads. They come in lots of colors are varieties and are easy to take care of. We also have planters that have Birds of Paradise, Purple Queen and Sweet Potato Vine. Some other options could be Heliconia, Antherium and Dracena. And some ornamental grasses too but I don't have varieties to suggest. Philadendron, Spider Plants, Liriope, Croton and Orchids all do well in our climate too, but not sure if you'd want them in a planter. That's all I can think of for now
