Years ago, DH hurt his knee playing rugby (hyperextended it). He never had it checked out. Within the last 6-12 months, it's been acting up, and he has to have the knee taped up for every rugby practice and game, because the knee is "loose" and needs extra support. A couple weeks ago, DH also hurt his pinky finger during a game. Figured he just sprained it or something, but the swelling has never gone down, and it still hurts.
He went to the doctor today. The pinky finger...he tore some ligaments or something like that. He can either just live with it, or he can have reconstructive surgery. I think he's leaning towards just living with it.
The knee...he did damage to the ligaments (PCL, I think?) and there are issues with his cartilage (I think...his phone was breaking up). He can either live with it (and tape his knee and/or wear a brace from here on out), or he can have reconstructive surgery. That would be a 6-month recovery until he could play rugby again, and a year before it's considered "healed." He's going to mull it over for awhile...but I think we're leaning towards having this surgery done. It's never going to get better on its own, and it could just get worse (considering DH's active lifestyle). I did point out to DH that he won't be able to drive our stick-shift car if he has this done...so I'll either have to give him rides everywhere (including work), or we'll have to get a second car.
Fun times in the S household!

Re: DH is falling apart
Oh goodness. I think I would go and have the surgery too because who knows what other kind of damage he could do by not getting it fixed. Hopefully he will be a quick healer. I am sure it will be hard on him knowing that he won't be able to participate in things for a while (especially rugby).
That is going to put a lot on you having to give him rides everywhere, especially work when I know that sometimes he has strange hours. Does he have coworkers that he might be able to get rides from if he knows that he has to work late or something?
Sounds like fun times in your household!
Sounds like my hubby! His knee is messed up from last summer, and now wears braces on them whenever he mows the grass or does any extensive walking. He should have surgery to fix it, but we dont have the money.
And, He has had to wear ankle braces on both feet since he was diagnosed with cancer almost 10 years ago. Theres nothing they can do for him for that, its just something he has to live with always.
He's done playing catcher for softball, now he's just a DH on the team. Forget about bball...though hes trying to get on a team for the summer against my wishes!
I hope your hubby's ailments dont get any worse!
Oh my goodness! I agree with you, if he is an active sportsmen she should go for the surgery otherwise he will only continue to damage the knee.
As he tried workouts that strengthen the knees. It might help him in the mean time along with wearing a brace. T&P to your DH
