One of our admins just came in and asked me why we didn't buy a popcorn popper for the cafeteria last year after Hospital Week (we had borrowed one for the week and everyone liked it). I told her because they cost three times as much as we thought they would.
She wants me to go about getting donations for it because it would be a really good morale booster. Puh freaking lease. Even if it is, can you imagine how pissed people would be if we bought a $1000 machine? With that money, we could have let 10 CNAs who are single mothers and living paycheck to paycheck not take a furlough day this month. Even if we tell them it was donated, they would still think it was frivolous. Not to mention, I don't even know who would donate money for that kind of thing. I sure as hell wouldn't.
Grr!
Re: OMG (work related)
Wouldn't it be cheaper just to buy popcorn in bulk at Sam's or Costco and pop some up every now and then?
Totally ironic but our teacher treat today is popcorn but it's all flavored:)

You can always tell her "How about we boost morale, buy taking away some of the furlough days"

Then you say: "Why not buy some ponies and a cotton candy machine while we're at it? That would certainly boost morale. Or, give everyone 1 paid holiday a week for the rest of the year, and try to get someone to donate the money for all the employee's salaries for that? I think these are some really good ideas. We should brainstorm more often!"
