s/o "I can take the heat"

how exactly do you say this...it's so awkward...I did this a few months ago at the drive through...and the girl was like "I'm sorry, what". So I started stumbling...oh, I'm sorry, I thought if you said that, um like I thought you were supposed to say that to get a free sandwich, I'm sorry..." and she's "oh, okay, will that complete your order"...had there been an way to exit the drive through without going through it, I would have taken it...

Is there some lead in like "is today the day we can say 'I can take the heat' to get a free sandwich"?

  • I would just ask "are you still doing the I Can Take the Heat sandwich promo?"
  • I would just ask for the sandwich - I don't really think you have to say the line.

  • I'm so the person who would make a big scene about it.  Like "HEY!  I CAN TAKE THE HEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"  Just to embarrass the cashier.

I went last week and said I wanted the spicy chicken sandwich promotion and after completely taking my order she said, "and if your talking about the free sandwich I need you to say it..."

Totally cracking up over here!  I'd do that too, but more to embarass DH since I'd be yelling from the back seat of the minivan!  Big Smile

  • The guy 2 cars in front of me screamed it out his window.  They were giving spicy chicken nuggets last night. I was surprised though at how many people didn't ask for it, even though they had signage right by the drive through.
