paternity leave question for the moms and moms-to-be
How many of our husbands have taken/plan to take paternity leave? When did they take it and for how long?
I've noticed a recent trend at my work. New fathers I work with and the husbands of the new moms I work with are taking bona fide paternity leaves - one or two weeks when the baby arrives, then two-three months of paid paternity leave or FMLA once the mom goes back to work. It's very refreshing! On the other hand, it also sounds like part of the reason why some of the dads are staying home is people having a hard time finding daycare openings.
Re: paternity leave question for the moms and moms-to-be
DH has no leave that was considered paternity, per say. He was able to take 3 weeks vacation basically, and used his PTO to cover it.
It worked out nicely because we have a transition week where we get paid for 40 hours but only have to work 20. So I took my 6 week STD, my MIL watched her for the transition week, then DH took 3 weeks vacation. T didn't have to go to DCP until 10 weeks old. By then we had things pretty much down pat so it was a nice transition to DCP

DH is a HS teacher, his contract allows him to take up to 12 paid days off. He is taking all of this week - luckily he was on vacation last week and didn't have to use any time while we waited and waited and waited for Colby's arrival.
He's in his busiest trimester at school, so that plays into the decision to stay home only 5-ish days. He could take longer, but it would be unpaid, and since my "maternity leave" isn't all it's cracked up to be, we're not able to take anything extra. He'll still have the flexibility to take the other 7 days if needed, but will be home with us for the summer in a few weeks. I'll go back to work (dreading it already) at the end of July, and DH will be home for about 4 more weeks, making it so we don't need to use daycare until Colby is 4 months old!

MH's company is too small for FMLA, so he had to use two weeks of his PTO -- one personal and one vacation. I wish he had paternity leave.
