The show was on all afternoon and I couldn't peel my eyes away. I think some of these people are seriously nuts, but I understand that the show exaggerates. I've read that the show wants these people to make huge, outrageous purchases and see how low they can get the final price by using coupons. These people don't go out like that every week and fill 9 shopping carts.
But still.
One of the women featured on the show had a full basement with thousands of products and specifically noted that she had enough dry pasta to last over a year. Then she went to the grocery store and bought 100 more because she was afraid she would run out.
Also. it made me wonder while I was watching about these extremists because most of them are overweight and are buying 100s of candy bars and processed food simply because of the bargain. There's no rhyme or reason to what they're buying.
So the question is: Do you think these people qualify as hoarders? And what's your opinion of the couponers? I use coupons myself but only for things I actually already use.

Re: Extreme Couponing
I am actually quite intrigued by this show and look forward to watching the new one on tonight - but probably just like I am intrigued to watch such shows as Intervention and Hoarding lol!
I do personally think that it is a form of hording. Why do you need to have hundreds of bottled of steak sauce stored underneath your daughters bed??? Some of those people choose to donate a lot of things to charity or make care packages for soldiers, and I commend the extreme couponers who do that!
This show has had me rethink using coupons. Not that extreme - but to maybe start doing a little more research before I shop to see if there is a way to save a few bucks on the stuff I already buy.
I agree that they are definitely hoarders. So many of them have said "I love looking at my supplies" or "looking at all my items makes me happy" and that's a little abnormal. And the one lady that even had a peg board so she could make it look more like a grocery store... goodness. But I suppose hoarding food and beauty supplies is way better than garbage.
On the one hand, I kinda get it. These people are paying less in two months on groceries, than I do in one trip. But just because it's free do you really need to buy 500 tubes of toothpaste?? And the one lady bought a ton of cat treats because she made money on the coupons, but didn't have a cat.
I understand using coupons for what you need, and getting a reasonable amount. But the episode last week, the mom bought ceral her kid didn't like just because it was free. Is $4 a box really that bad??
I agree. The few episodes I've seen, the people look like they are addicted to coupon shopping. They look like they are addicted to the "high" of seeing how much they can get for free.
I also think it is very unhealthy. a lot of them are overweight and buying chips, canned and processed foods. I don't really use coupons because we mostly buy veggies, fruits, dairy and meat and you rarely get coupons for those. We don't eat much processed food, so it isn't really worth it. I also think it takes WAY too much time to do that kind of planning. Maybe if i was a SAHM and had more time, but with both of us working full time, it just isn't worth it.
