  • What's new with you?  Trying to find things to keep me busy...

Any fun purchases recently? Bought some new shoes last week, but I think they're too tight.  Well, the left one feels too tight.  WTH is up with that?

DH do anything extra sweet, or not so sweet, lately?  He is gone again... this time visiting his family while he's between jobs.  I hate having the house to myself (well, me and Mr. Crispin), hence trying to find things to do.

How's work going?  Good.  Last week I was stressed about meeting deadlines, but today I got reassigned a project to help out someone else, so I'm kind of proud :)

Doing anything fun with your spare time you care to share? Reading The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks - very good so far.  Starting a basic cake decorating class on Thursday.  Working on a wedding album for our parents.

Also, you lurkers should come out and say hi - I know you're out there viewing the post, so come on in :)

  • What's new with you?  Not enough.  I'm still looking for an apartment.

Any fun purchases recently?  I have some sort of problem buying things.  Not spending money, but purchasing objects.  When I do buy something it tends not to be "fun," like right before Easter I bought a couple of things off our registry that I needed for making and serving dinner.  I am getting a keratin treatment done on Thursday (maybe not a purchase, but definitely not in my usual expenses).

DH do anything extra sweet, or not so sweet, lately?  Not so sweet:  he assigned me the task of finding his parents a sublet in NYC.  The requirements?  $1000/month, convenient to midtown Manhattan, and at least 1 bedroom... um, not possible.  I have found a studio for $1500, so I think I've done pretty well.

How's work going?  Okay, I guess.  I'm actually looking at a new opportunity, which seems really promising *fingers crossed*

Doing anything fun with your spare time you care to share?  Not really.  But I have several ideas that I think would be fun but haven't implemented them yet.  Like learning to sew.  And the cake decorating class sounds pretty awesome!

  • What's new with you?  Not a whole lot. My mom spilled the beans about our TTC plans at my niece's 2nd birthday party, so now the entire family (aunts, uncles, cousins, grandma) knows. It's all sorts of awesome ... or not.

Any fun purchases recently? Nothing really fun. I bought some shoes and new work clothes the other day. We're probably buying a Xbox 360 this weekend.

DH do anything extra sweet, or not so sweet, lately? He went to a Sox game with me on Sunday. I never in a million years thought that he would go to a game with just the two of us since he's definitely not into sports. But at the game, he couldn't sit still, so I think I got to see all of 3 full innings. So, that kind of sucked.

How's work going? Eh, it's going. I want to add another task to what I do because it gets so boring doing the same things over and over.

Doing anything fun with your spare time you care to share? I'm organizing the spare bedroom so I can set it up as an office/craft room. Once I get it all organized, I'm going to work on my quilt (I started to make it last year) and make a couple throw pillows for the couch. I also found a really cute pattern for a purse that I'm hoping to make sometime soon.

  • What's new with you? I'm preparing for a garage sale with my mom and have therefore been purging every nook and cranny of our apartment - it's amazing how even in such a small space we have managed to accumulate so much STUFF!!

Any fun purchases recently? Ooh yeah just yesterday night we upgraded my road bike to a mountain bike - we sold the old one and went out immediately (I knew which one I wanted) and picked it up. I can't wait to go trail riding now!

DH do anything extra sweet, or not so sweet, lately? He let me sleep in this morning :)

How's work going? Work is going good - I have several months booked up for events and sessions and am really looking forward to next weekend when I shoot my first wedding of the season!

Doing anything fun with your spare time you care to share? Right now I'm crocheting a lot - I've been trying my hand at stuffed animals and am finding that I'm actually pretty good at it, so I'm making items for my younger sister's baby girl, who is due in August. My next fun thing is figuring out how to use my sewing machine. :)

You know I've heard that a person's left foot is bigger than their right...my feet are just plain fat so it's difficult to find much of anything to fit into!

Can you tell us about your new opportunity yet?? I'm crossing my fingers for you too no matter if you let us in on the news yet!

  • What's new with you?Well I'm going batty with all the family events we've had to go to. I haven't had a "date night" in long time and it's definitely getting to me. I feel like an emotional wreck now that I'm off BC. Still having a very hard time convincing DH that we are ready to TTC and it's bumming me out.

Any fun purchases recently? Bought a LED tv for my nephews graduation next week. He'll be so surprised. But I get to ride a mechanical bull at his party so it's worth it. Super excited.

DH do anything extra sweet, or not so sweet, lately? Not so sweet. I am overwhelmed at his family obligations in town (every weeked for the past 4) and he had the nerve to complain about our trip next weekend to see my family. We see them twice a year tops. So I'm actually pretty hurt. He has little if any interaction with my family and I've been going out of my way to forge better relationships with his mom, grandma and brother since we got married.

How's work going? OK. I did a pretty good job this week and had a great review last week.

Doing anything fun with your spare time you care to share? I am gardening more  and started a lame blog. Not too much.

  • Jenif -- it's not that exciting lol!  It's a marketing position in a software company.  It fits what I want in many ways, the company seems interesting, and I've had a hard time getting "good" jobs out here with a non-tech background, and I have felt that if I can just get into one tech company, it would improve things.  So this could be my "big break" if it works out.

Bella -- so glad to hear things are going well at work!  I hope it keeps improving, but it sounds like you must have the software under control now.

This isn't advice, but I feel for you.  DH and I also have a lot of conflicts over family obligations.  My family is local, and IMO we don't meet them that often (partly because DH doesn't like to).  Because of the wedding and my mom passing away, we've been meeting more, but I'd say before it was about 4 times a year (wedding, funeral, my brother's birthday, and one dinner around the holidays).  His family is in India, so we see them less frequently, BUT when they come they stay at least a month, plus they're on skype twice a week, he sends them money, and they're in our business all the time.  So I feel like we interact with them WAY more.  We have a lot of "discussions" over whether it's worse to be the only non-white person at a Swedish wedding or have your MIL throw away your food and order you to clean up after her (I guess my point of view is pretty obvious).  Anyway, GL!  And if you work it out tell me how!

  • It's so weird. I really do think the IL are great people. I'm just having a hard time letting them in I guess. MIL wants to be my mom. And in so many ways it oversteps what I am comfortable with. I know her intentions are good. I just don't feel that way about her and I feel like to be a good DIL I have to play nice all the time. It's stressing me out. DH just isn't that social with anyone and doesn't really get that he should be putting effort into getting to know my family. It bums me out that he is crabby about being around them when I miss them so much and the time flies when I get to spend some time with them. I always feel like his family comes first. We plan everything around them and my family gets the sloppy seconds.

I cannot imagine staying quiet if my MIL was like yours. That would be totally unnerving. I get that some of it is cultural, but really?

I decided to ditch out of this weekends plans. He can go by himself and I'm not going to explain or apologize. I may just send my regrets that night instead of warning her so she can make alternate plans to get me to the house.  I'm just going to go out with a girlfriend and enjoy myself. I really do worry what it will be like if we ever have a child. I imagaine the weekly "just calling to let you know I'm going to stop by in 15 mins, and I'm on my way" crap will get way worse. Sigh.

  • What's new with you? Joined a gym. Luckily, I can go during my lunch break for an hour - so I went swimming and in the sauna today. It was fabulous.

Any fun purchases recently? A nice pair of flats. Organization box things for my closet.

DH do anything extra sweet, or not so sweet, lately? Yes! When he was away last week, he sent me flowers in the middle of the week. :)

    How's work going? Ugh, boring.

Doing anything fun with your spare time you care to share? I de-weeded the entire garden last weekend - talk about a workout! I'm excited to have fresh herbs and vegetables again soon. Otherwise just been spending free time watching TV, movies, and reading. Oh, and making Mexican food and fruit smoothies.

Angie - I love having the house to myself! DH and I are really never apart, so when he was gone last week (he was between jobs as well), it was fantastic. Don't get me wrong, I love having him around - but it's one of those "I can't miss you if you never leave" sort of things. So having time apart helped the heart grow fonder.

haha temur - that request from DH does sound rather impossible.

  • What's new with you? Not much.  It's been kind of a rough start to May.

Any fun purchases recently? Nope.  I joined PaperBackSwap though, and I've gotten three new books since then (well, two are coming in the mail).  I'm getting rid of some of the books I don't reread either.

DH do anything extra sweet, or not so sweet, lately? He's been really awesome this week, I've been down, and he's been picking me up again and again.

How's work going? LOL, not a good time to ask this question!

Doing anything fun with your spare time you care to share? Lots of reading.  I went on a 14 mile bike ride last Friday!  And spending some time with my girlfriends.  Always fun.

  • Well, here goes.......

Manda - I'm jealous of your NYC trip - that's on my bucket list!

Tem - I get like that sometimes, where I go on buying sprees and just need a few little things to perk myself up.  I rationalize that at least I am frugal in my pick-me-up-purchases, and it could be a worse habit like gambling!

Scarlett - that stinks that your mom spilled the beans.  Maybe she could spill some more beans that y'all changed your minds and are going to wait a little longer, just to keep people's nosiness to a minimum?

Jenif - I have small, wide feet.  Like, 6.5W is ideal... do you know how hard that is to find?  Pretty tough.  Sadly, I looove shoes... well, mostly love to buy them and not wear them :(

Bella - I'm glad your job is going better!  You should share your blog with us - if you share yours, I'll share mine :)

Rachel - it's just getting old.  I'm having trouble dealing - it's been off-and-on since mid-March.  Longest was about 3 weeks, and a total of 3 trips now.  I'm kind of pathetic while he's gone.  But tonight, my sister came over and we played around my house, so that was lots of fun.

Megan - I'm sorry it's a rough month for you so far - anything you care to share?  Hang in there, hon!

    Whew!

  • Angie - I am late here, but it's been great reading everyone's updates and getting caught up!!

What's new with you? Just back from grueling FAM training (see post, haha).

Any fun purchases recently? Hmmm. Yes, some new make-up and sharp looking dress pants. I have to have a little fun with all this work.

DH do anything extra sweet, or not so sweet, lately? Total sweetheart lately. When I arrived home Wednesday, he had the entire apartment cleaned, flowers waiting for me, had picked out a matte and frame for our papal blessing on our wedding day, and basically has been treating me like a princess. I think he missed me when I was gone!

How's work going? Eh. My day job has not been easy lately. I feel like we're undergoing a long, painful break-up process. I do love my boss and coworkers but... yeah.

Doing anything fun with your spare time you care to share? Right now, not much spare time. :( Unless you count preparing for my stepsis's bridal shower as "extracurricular" :).

  • Bella - if this makes you feel any better, I struggled for a long time to let my MIL "in." She is a great woman - his family is awesome - but yeah, it can just be a tough transition. :) I hope it gets better. I can hear how bummed you are (and I would be too based on what you've shared).

Tem - regarding Manhattan housing for the ILs.. uh yeah that does sound impossible!! :(

Archel - lol, I think that "leaving so you miss each other" thing really worked with DH this past week. :)

  • Bella -- does your H realize how much time you put into his family?  DH has been better since I pointed out to him how many things I do for his family that will never ever remotely come up with my family.  For example, there is really zero chance my dad would ever stay in our apartment for more than a weekend, even if we lived OT, and none of my relatives would ever expect to tell him what to wear or eat.  That is partly cultural differences, but it comes down to the same thing, which is I have to do things he doesn't.  But I had to point out to him that I do these things and try to have a relationship with my ILs.  And I would say they like me, but they're a bit irritating.  I like them way more on skype than in my home lol!

And please do share your blog with us!
