SSA released the top baby names in 2010 today
I know a lot of you mom-to-be have already picked out your names, but I always love looking at the names to see how it has changed since last year.
http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/ For some reason it won't give me the direct link to the 2010 list.
Re: SSA released the top baby names in 2010 today
Before I look I am going to go ahead and say Sophia is still in the top 5.
Lets seeeeeee
Go me.
I have a friend that actually named her daughter Sophia Isabella. LOL
Neither of my top contender girls names are in the top 100, but I did see all my boy names, mostly in the top 30. But who knows what will happen in a few years when we actually have kids.
I still wish I hadn't said anything to DH's cousin about a name I loved (Madelyn). She used it for her daughter and now I can't use it. It was a family name, and now it seems the popularity is going back down so I actually might have used it. oh well. Who knows if we will actually have a girl when we have kids.

Me either.
Ditto.
My name isn't even in the top 500, maybe dh is onto something.
I keep asking Andrew if he likes Sophia for a girl..sadly he does not.

Ha! Mine's not either!
Did you see number 140: Izabella?
Not a fan of the spelling although I do like the occasional "y" in names. If I have a little girl, I want her name to be Camryn.
I'm looking at the full list jsut so I can get some fun laughs out of the unusual names...
So far for boys I have found:
Alredo.. Um really you are naming your kid after a Pasta sauce. What is worse it that name is more popular than Gary & Douglas.
Rhys (I guess this is supposed to be pronounced like Reese -which is lower on the list)
Noe, is this pronouce like Noey or more like No?
Xzavier. I love the name but this spelling not so much. choose one spelling or the other.
There are certianly a lot that are NMS, but I can't criticize them for that. But these were a little too out there for me.

Rhys, is the name we talked about for a boy, actually.
My girl name is not in the top 100, and my boy name is not even in the top 1000. I am good with those!

Is Rhys pronounced like Reese? I've honestly never seen it before, hence why I thought it was a new spelling that was gaining popularity.
ETA: I googled, and I see that this is more the traditional Welsh/English spelling of the name. The "Y" in there threw me off making me think it was the new spelling. It's still NMS, but since it is not a new spelling just to put a "Y" in there, that makes it 100x better.

Ugh, when we picked the name Isabella, I didn't know one other person with that name and now everyone is using it. I still love the name, and we have never seen a single second of a twilight movie.
My hope is that she doesn't get dubbed with a movie line. I grew up during the forest gump era with the name Jennifer. It was painful hearing everyone quote movie lines to me. I hated that movie before I ever even watched it.
I had heard of it before but when we were on our honeymoon we found out it was the root of my maiden name. I like using last names as first names and I was not a fan of using my actual maiden name, that was the next best thing. However, I just could not reconcile that the he would never have people spell it right. I vetoed it a few months ago.

That is a neat corelation with your maiden name, so i could see how you came to like it. I agree with the spelling issue, but could certainly see choosing it for the the other reasons you mentioned. my biggest problem on first seeing it was that someone wanted to be you-neek and change the spelling of Reese, when in reality it is the other way around.

z's 47 which is perfectly fine by me.
personally, i really don't care what number my names are on the list. coming from someone who had a crapload of people with her same name in class, as long as it's not top 5 it's all good with me.

Can I just shout out a "We're number ONE! We're number ONE!" Honestly, no other name worked for him and us, and this way everyone will know how to spell it and pronounce it, which is good b/c no one can do either one with his last name.
Obviously they are at the top because they are good names. If you like a name then go with it. In ten years there will be a whole new slew (sp?) of names. We don't see Jennifer, Jessica, Melissa, etc. at the top anymore.
